Getting in front of the camera.... overcoming the fear

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Lane Realty Eatonton, GA Lake Sinclair, Milledgeville, 706-485-9668 GREC# 169695

The one thing in this business that I've know I needed to do, but simply have NOT done before now is video featuring me.  I have done home videos with me behind the camera, but I just haven't gotten in front of the camera.  I have forever in family photo taking been the one holding the camera, not in many of the photos.

But I know that video is more and more important for truly showcasing properties and branding myself and my company as well.  So I've finally stepped outside of my comfort zone and gotten on the other side doing my first "selfie" on the fly video on one of my listings.

It was on my phone and I know I have a LOT of work to do to master this new task I've given myself, but I'm really going to force myself to get out there and do it. Video is indexed well by Google and people scrolling through Facebook tend to stop and watch video more than clicking on additional photos and certainly more than noticing a wall of words.

A week after I'd posted the video on my Facebook business page I checked and it indeed had views and while only 14% of the people who watched continued through the entire video, someone from that 14% might be "the" buyer looking for acreage.

I should have and didn't follow up with a click through to to my website for more information link in the text of the post... learning curve for video.  So maybe I'm late to this arty, but I'm getting there.

Today I also sat down and took a look at getting it loaded from my phone directly to youtube via the app as opposed to the steps of emailing it to my computer and then loading it. So look for more video from me in the future... because it didn't kill me.

Congratulations on doing it! I have to do video as well, but am also not looking forward to being in front of the camera. I'd love to hear your tips as you learn what does or does not work.

I am the same. Soo insecure in front of video! I don’t like my voice. I need a glam team!

Tammy, this type of personalized video seems to be the rage on YouTube, guessing from the advertisements that start before nearly all videos.  See the person, no matter how photogenic, seems to affect the viewer psychologically in a more positive way rather than just showing clever graphics and music.

Congratulations on taking this first step!! I think you are going in the right direction.

Kudos Tammy! I have done one (1) video that I posted and this one was for ActiveRain. I am way, way more comfortable behind the camera, but know a switch to in front would be a wise move. It takes a lot of guts to step out of your comfort zone. Well done!

I'm so glad it didn't kill you! Loved this video and saw it when you posted it - I'm still not there! I know it won't kill me but, it's just like the testimonial thing - you always get there before me! LOL

Yes, like you, I have heard this but I have yet to participate. I have a videographer friend who says I'd be great. She'll vid me at a picnic table in the park. Uhhh NO.

That's where it's at.

Wow.  You made it look easy.    Like many others, I understand why you were so hesitant.  Yet, you did a great job.  You have given me a little more confidence. Thank you.  P.S.    Best wishes selling the lot.

Hi Tammy:

I think you are off to a great start. Just keep at it and it gets easier. I did a fair number of videos from behind the scenes first, and that helped feeling more comfortable when I was in front of the camer. It took a while! Don’t work about perfection, but be yourself!!

Good job on getting over your fears!  I am on the same page and just making myself do it too.  Videos really do get good Google juice... especially if you put the address in the title.
