And Then He Cried Out "I Lost On Jeopardy!"

It has all the elements of high drama some might say. Who would have thunk this would happen when Endre Barath, Jr. announced this ActiveRain Chalenge for March - Book Smart?

So many posts(many quite clever)have been shared about the painting Endre showed us in his challenge annoucement post. Some mysteries and insights have been revealed(there's been more intrigue for this challenge than we typically see on AR quite frankly).  And now on March 30, 2019 this interpretarion of the painting by Paul Julien Freed can finally be told. Well, at least it's my interpretation and that qualifies as one of the rules of this challenge. It's a true character study and the subject is quite the character.  Indeed.

It's a fairly simple tale and one which could be made into a screenplay as much as it has been made a painting but you know about ideas and such. It's all about timing.  Things happen.

Now imagine a person walking onto the set of the Jeopardy! game show.  Obviously, this person is smart.  Smart enough to pass the required pre-show examinations.  Quirky appearance too because Hollywood likes that on screen - it attracts additional viewers some of the show's producers think.  And this contestant had each quirky box checked too. Need more evidence?  Read the blog of Paul Freed - he has an interesting and humorous look at life and his writing style is as creative as his artwork.

Through a series of unfortunate category choices, a most risky betting strategy and still worse an expletive-ridden mea culpa off-screen to Jeopardy! game show host icons Art Fleming and Don Pardo combined to create a memorable television moment although high embarrassing.  And his mug shot has been captured in this famous artwork just so everyone involved remembers.  Forever.

I tried to share a clip from "I Lost on Jeopardy" by Al Yankovic but I was unsuccessful.  Released in 1984.  The parody was based on Jeopardy by the Greg Kihn Band and well worth checking out if you're interested.

Wayne Martin - not much pondering at all actually.

Alexandra Ron and Alexandra Seigel - Merv Griffin was certainly an astute businessperson.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - and the prizes for winning/participating were much different in those days too.

My favorite Jeopardy shows are "Celebrity Jeopardy" on Saturday Night Live. Especially the ones that attack Burt Reynolds, LOL.

Oh, I enjoy Jeopardy when I can catch it - love, love, love trivia! Great take on the art, Michael! I saw your title yesterday and couldn't get over to comment. I had no idea it was related to this challenge and you didn't disappoint! I love it!

Weird Al did have some fun songs. My favorite was "Fat" (to Michael Jackson's Bad). The video was too funny.

I was hoping that we would get to hear your ponderings on this work of art and as I suspected, we are not at all disappointed in your interpretation!!!  I could definitely seeing this man as a contestant on Jeopardy, haha.

Michael Jacobs - Although I am not familiar with "Art Fleming and Don Pardo," I do love Jeopardy. I have on rare occasions seen SNL so I can't comment on either of these men. But I do like your interpretation of the painting. A wise man thinks carefully before speaking or making comment and your interpretation was excellent!

Kathy Streib - back when Jeopardy! was a classic game and I did have the home version too.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - it definitely wasn't a post title that immediately shouted ActiveRain challenge submission.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - I'd leave it to science if I thought there might be any takers.

Amanda S. Davidson -- it's often a test for me to wonder how I survived in the real world with my performance based on that evening's show.\

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty - yes, a real classic.

Brian England - well, that's how my twisted mind saw it.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - I grew up watching Jeopardy which was a daytime game show I was only able to see in summer.  Art Fleming was its host and Don Pardo the announcer.  Pardo was also the announcer for Saturday Night Live for some time too.

Ed Silva - I can kinda see the resemblance.

I have pondered this post... and don't quite get the connection of the painting with the song.   If I don't get something the first time around I have a tendency to walk away and just shrug it off.
But

I looked up the song on YouTube, and was pleased to find out what the hey Kihn's song was about when I first heard strains of it years ago!!  I would like to get the lyrics though, as this would put more light on things I am sure.  Here is a link to that song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAJNwPWVmNc

I can actually play Kihn's other more successful hit: The Breakup Song.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - and obviously I'm playing catch up with some comments I missed too.  Thank you.

John Henry - sometimes there is no connection. Kinda like "There is no there there" as Gertrude Stein said in reference to Oakland, CA although I am not putting myself at the same level as Ms. Stein at all.
