There are many things to love about California. One of my favorites is the abundance of places to explore outside. During the month of February, California was filled with lush green rolling hills and valley's untouched by the human hand. Blessed with just enough rain water to sprout fresh blades of grass rising up through the dried soil. The potential of thriving life was all around. Imagine the possibilities of what California could look like if enough rain was given to this huge state each year. But, due to the drastic transformation of the landscape for farming and developmental reasons, the local vegetation has for the most part been wiped out, thus creating the perfect storm for drought and fires. So, when these moments arrive in California to receive a glimpse of what could be, it really is a gift.
Another place I enjoy visiting, early in the morning to avoid the crowds is Venice Beach, California. On this particular day I arrived around 7:15am, grabbed a light breakfast and strolled along the beach, watching local surfers catching gentle rolling waves. I also ventured onto the peir you see in the photo and walked to the end. To my surprise, I was pleseatly greeted with a view of about 10 whales swimming in the Pacific Ocean in the far distance.
This day was a great reminder to me to slow down, be present, and enjoy the simple things in life. Thank you.
