Summer is around the corner! Start making plans with friends and family, and check out the many activities our county has to offer.
The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary
Here in Santa Cruz, we strive to keep our oceans and beaches clean, as well as preserve and protect our aquatic friends. The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is a wonderful place to take a day trip and get to know some marine life, as well as see what the Sanctuary does to protect our shores.
They offer different activities such as kayaking, whale watching, tide pooling, and more!
Santa Cruz is known for its choice surf spots, so come out and experience the Pacific!
Take a lesson at Cowell's Beach from The Club Ed Surf School or one of the many other surf schools, such as Santa Cruz Surf School, Richard Schmidt Surf School, Inc., Santa Cruz Surf Academy, or the Surf School Santa Cruz!
Or, try your hand at stand up paddle boarding with the SUP Shack!
Santa Cruz Harbor
Come and see what's happening around our harbor! With activities like sailing charters, kayaking, whale watching and more, the whole family can enjoy the sun and the view.
On Wednesday nights, the harbor hosts Sailboat Races! From April to October, each Wednesday night local sailors get out during the early evening to compete and have fun! This is an event that packs the harbor with spectators, so be sure to get there early, and to bring a camera, or video device, a beach blanket, and the kids to watch the sailboats along the beautiful setting sun.
Have you or your little ones ever been interesting in learning how to sail? Our very own UCSC puts on two-week sailing courses throughout the summer for any skill level. You get great skills and meet new people that can potentially be lifelong friends!
Enjoy oceanside restaurants, the perfect end to a glorious day!
