Are You Investing in Your Greatest Commodity? Yourself?

By

Whether it's creating prosperity, nurturing yourself emotionally, physically, spiritually or cleaning up your "space"....it's all putting energy into where it counts; investing in yourself.

I have a past client who just bought a smallish home in my community, Fishhawk Lake. When I popped by to congratulate her on her first morning in her new home this last week, she opened the door donning rubber yellow gloves and cleaning supplies everywhere.

Today, I texted her to see if she had a productive weekend. She did. "There is a long way to go," she said and added that she's taking it a day at a time. I messaged her back that it "Gives you a sense of renewal." She is cleaning away old energy she wrote and the more work she does, the more it becomes hers, and I said, "You're investing in yourself! Doesn't get any better than that as far as a good use of energy".

Investing in yourself doesn't have to be about money. It CAN be, but there are also a myriad of ways to express this that are priceless. Women quite often have a tendency to nurture others, for example, and put themselves last as a priority for this highly necessary soulful commodity. Something as simple as taking time to yourself completely, for an hour will inevitably be shuffled off the list when other needs arise that we take on for our families, our clients, our pets, our household, with all that that encompasses.

For me, going out to my folly and creating my art is an investment in my spiritual upkeep. (One of my recent works of art: mixed media landscape) Mixed Media Landscape Abstract by Gayle Rich-Boxman 2019

It completely rejuvenates me, fills me back up so that on a Monday, I can tackle all of the work that my real estate business clamors to have addressed.

"There is a connection between self-nurturing and self-respect", Julia Cameron wrote. Just as others deserve our respect, so do we, ourselves, deserve that same degree of esteem and reverance. This week, when you are tackling your To Do list, be sure and add time to invest in what makes you a more balanced person in your own eyes. Whether it's meditating, cooking yourself a fine meal, laughing or taking a long bath with a glass of wine and a favorite book, make sure you are putting this on your list as a PRIORITY so that you can be your best self for everyone and everything else that you invest in!!

Barbara Todaro following your passion is a great way to put you right at the head of the day. I know this is the way you do it. Good for you.

John Henry yes! At the very least, 1-2 hours per week. I would invite more. And that is not a tennis ball, but a rock!! I painted the tile to mirror that line that goes through the rock naturally.

Kat Palmiotti re-whatever! So funny and so accurate. Fill in the blank, so long as you put it on your nurturing calendar!

Cindy Edwards no good in business OR in your personal life if you don't fill yourself up. Empty tank doesn't go anywhere!

Jeff Dowler, CRS love the way you described my art. Yes, movement is a big part of it!

Always putting others before yourself and giving to everyone else, Diana Dahlberg leaves the vessel empty for yourself to draw from. You understand that, it sounds like!

Women especially need to 'invest in themselves'. So often we put others before us and we need to take time for ourselves--and not apologize for it!

Absolutely true, Mary Hutchison, SRES, ABR ! It's not often that you find a woman who doesn't serve others before herself.

Years ago I was a builder. I was always in a hurry to get to the job and I worked long days. I did not take care of my truck. One day on the way to a job, the red light came on and then the truck stopped. I had not taken care of the oil and I blew the engine. Two days later and $1500 poorer I was able to go back to work.

Lesson learned and I did apply it to taking care of myself. There was a commercial of years ago that said: "Pay me now or pay me later." So true.

John Wiley what a valuable lesson you learned! And you didn't get in a car accident as a "wakeup call" to figure it out.

I thank you for this clear view of how to make sure you nurture yourself and the important things around you!
