Explore the Discovery Center
The Discovery Center of Idaho (DCI) is all about inspiring a lifelong interest and learning in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Michael and I have both been to the DCI before, and so has Jonathan, but we have not been there in years. Jonathan loved coming here as a young child, and it has only gotten better over the last two decades. In fact, the Discovery Center now offers “Adult Nights,” which we quickly found out are a way for adults to play and explore over 150 hands-on exhibits along with the fun, interactive learning DCI has to offer, and then some.
One night, every other month, they close up shop to anyone under the age of 21. They bring in music, local food and drinks for an evening centered around a topic sure to pique the interest of their more mature guests. Cycling. Brewing. Illumination. You get the idea. If that’s not enough already, they invite experts to give demonstrations or short talks, experiments and shows, and guests have the opportunity to speak with those in the know as the night goes on. The Adult Nights at DCI boil down to STEM learning, socializing and a good time, all rolled into one great night.
And because of that, and it’s cultural impact on the City of Trees, I had to add it to the list of Boyle’s Boise: 52 Things to Do and See. The Discovery Center of Idaho is a private, non-profit 501c3 corporation that exists without state or federal funding and is dependent on contributions from community minded citizens, corporations, and foundations.
About Me:
I have been living in Idaho for my entire life, and the Treasure Valley has been my home for more than 30 years. In addition to constantly exploring the city and all of its activities, I am also very involved in the Treasure Valley’s philanthropy scene and have been working in the Mortgage industry as a Loan Officer for more than 35 years now. Additionally, my husband Michael had a 20+ year career in Real Estate. So, if you are new to the area and looking to lay down some roots for your family, get involved with some great causes, connect with like-minded people or just explore all that Boise has to offer – don’t hesitate to let me know!
