Motivational Monday - Any Given Moment
Most of us are never really fully present in our lives because we are continuously distracted. Our world is filled with distractions and the number of things that can take us away from being focused in the moment seems to be mounting!
Our focus may be on one thing for a few moments, but suddenly another thought, request, call, social media alert or another task comes up and we’re off to address that one, often leaving the primary focus undone. Identify those distractions and develop a plan to avoid them.

If you sense you’re being distracted, STOP. Check in. Carve out a moment to intentionally be present. If you struggle with this, meditation or yoga can help train our minds to become more mindful.
When it comes to being present with others, LISTEN. Listen without the intent to respond. The best way to do that is often training yourself to listen with curiosity, not anticipation.
Mindfulness is more often than not, something we have to train ourselves to do; being present in the moment is not always easy. The number of distractions that we are exposed to seem to be mounting. Besides listening, I’ve found one trick to doing this is with time-blocking.
How is this helpful? My secret is what I call over-blocking. Every single entry on the calendar is intentionally scheduled conservatively, leaving smaller blocks of time for the little things - photographing flowers in the middle of the day, taking those unexpected phone calls, MAKING those spur-of-the-moment phone calls, popping over to Facebook or ActiveRain. Plus, it lowers my stress level when it comes to timliness - I detest tardiness but, that's a whole other post!
Don’t let life pass you by - listen, be mindful and avoid missing those little clues that could be life-changers!
Happy Monday!
