Your Million Dollar Year Day 22 Bootstrapping is the way many agents start their careers. Often it is said that it takes 6 months of reserve money to begin a career where you don't get paid until you have completed a transaction with clients. I have witnessed lots of people start up without these funds, but it is tight. In the real estate business everyone has their hand in your pocket and is offering you a new shiny object that if you just buy, subscribe, join us you will be successful. When they say "you will be successful" they are really talking about their own business and not necessarily that you, the buyer, will be successful.
As you begin your business make sure you have a handle on where and how you are sharing your hard earned commissions. Franchises will take the most from you because it isn't cheap to run a national/international business. Boutiques and regional offices can take less because they are not building their own brands as is the franchise model, they are building a business in a community. Paying monthly fees for benefits you don't use is another way Agencies put their hand in your pocket. Training programs from your franchise that come at a high cost may excited you during the program, but do little to build your business long term once you leave the room.
The real estate business is clearly not for everyone, there are pitfalls and hurdles everywhere. If you are an entrepreneural individual who isn't afraid of the risk, if yo have strong focus on getting things done in the day you will make it. If you listen to your agency and they are constantly pushing expensive programs perhaps you are in the wrong place. Bootstrapping your way into this business takes some effort. Find a agency that shows you they care by helping you achieve success right out of the gate. Call me if you have questions I can share with you success models I have witnessed.
