Margaret Brewer was born in Durand, Michigan back in 1930 to Maurice and Anne. After graduating from a Catholic High School in Baltimore she entered the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where she received a bachelor’s degree in geography in 1952.
She joined the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1952 commissioned as a second lieutenant. She was assigned to the Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro, California. Assigned to several stations she continued to rise through the ranks before retiring in 1980 after 18 years of serving this country. After retiring she served on the boards of the Catholic Charities of Arlington County, and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. She died in Springfield, VA. In 2013 of Alzheimer’s disease.
What you may not know about Margaret is that she was the first female in the United States Marine Corps to reach the rank of Brigadier General.
