National Siblings Day: April 10
Happy Siblings Day! Did you know April 10th is designated as National Siblings Day? And did you know that some 80% of Americans have at least one sibling? That means, the majority of us have a brother and/or sister. And these days with all the blended families out there many of us also have half-sisters and half-brothers, step-sisters and step-brothers! Today's the day to go out and give one (or more) of your siblings a hug and tell them you love and appreciate them!
Favorite quotes about sibling relationships which truly underscore how special and precious the sibling relationship is:
"Sibling relationships -- and 80 percent of Americans have at least one -- outlast marriages, survive the death of parents, resurface after quarrels that would sink any friendship. They flourish in a thousand incarnations of closeness and distance, warmth, loyalty and distrust." ~ Erica E Goode
“You can kid the world, but not your sister.” ~ Charlotte Gray
"Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of. You know whatever you do, they'll still be there."~ Amy Li
"It snowed last year too: I made a snowman and my brother knocked it down and I knocked my brother down and then we had tea."~ Dylan Thomas
"To the outside world, we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time." ~ Clara Ortega
"Our brothers and sisters are there with us from the dawn of our personal stories to the inevitable dusk." — Susan Scarf Merrell
"There's no other love like the love for a brother. There's no other love like the love from a brother." — Terri Guillemets
"A sibling may be the keeper of one’s identity, the only person with the keys to one’s unfettered, more fundamental self." — Marian Sandmaier
"I sought my soul, but my soul I could not see. I sought my God, but my God eluded me. I sought my brother and I found all three." — Unknown
"You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them." — Desmond Tutu
I don't know about you, but as someone with four living siblings ranging in age from 68 to 92, these quotes all ring very true to me! (I've added pictures of me with two of my sisters.) There truly is nothing in our lives like our relationships with our brothers and sisters and today's the day to recognize that fact! Happy Siblings Day!
