7 easy upgrades to transform your kitchen

Renovate Cabinets

This can be as easy as painting old worn looking cabinets with a new contemporary color. Currently in 2019, white is the preferred color but that may change as trends evolve. You could also REPLACE outdated style cabinets with new doors and front panels. It’s cheaper than replacing the entire cabinet, especially if the old ones are still in good condition.

New Faucet

There are lots of great styles and innovations in the kitchen hardware aisle of your home improvement store. Check the internet for sites like Pinterest and Instagram for ideas. Look at the manufacturer's site like Moen, Koehler and American Standard for items like high-arc, touchess and automatic faucets

New door pulls/knobs

This is an easy and fast project. And you can probably do it with just a screwdriver. While some can be quite pricey, again, check the local big box retailer for supplies for a quick upgrade. We purchased some unique handles through the local kitchen and bath speciality retailer but the extra expense was well worth the compliments we receive on out new handles.

Fix your storage

While you’re painting or updating your cabinets, think about adding some storage solutions to the inside of your cabinets. Add slide out shelves to make retrieving pots and pans an easy task. You could also consider adding multiple pullouts to a few cabinets which will really increase your storage. This is perfect for a pantry cabinet.

Fresh Paint

This one is a total no-brainer. People have been freshening their kitchen appearance with paint forever. This will brighten your kitchen in no time and bring it up to the contemporary style in just a few hours. Look at paint suppliers for color pallets when choosing accent colors but stay with the latest trend for maximum impact. And the trade secret is to spend more time prepping than you do painting!

Backsplash upgrade

This recent trend has become another fast and easy decorating uplift for a dreary kitchen. Tile stores are loaded with solutions for backsplash installations. Some recent trends are “subway” tiles and those narrow glass and stone patterns. I would caution that these two trends are getting well used and might become passe in the near future. Consider using interesting tile patterns as well as granite and stone materials.

Change/Improve Lighting

Once again, the internet is your friend when it comes to ideas for lighting. There are thousands of new styles available with lots of different light bulb options. Even consider refurbishing an old fixture or repurposing something that would make a great fixture.

One final tip; Visit new construction open houses in your area. The home builders all hire professional designers to decorate the homes and especially the kitchens with the latest and greatest trends in home furnishing.

So...these are my 7 easy upgrades to transform your kitchen.

Trends come and go. Might be good today but in the future not so. For me, I'd stick to the lighting and painting.
