Friday Photo 2: From The Boat To You @117 Harbor Way!

On tonight's dinner menu, we have local sashimi grade Ahi Tuna. We sautée it in butter with a crust of black sesame seed.   It is perfect with a side of fresh organic spinach!

We love driving down to the harbor, and on occasion we actually see the fish come off the boat to the back door of the building.  We took a picture of part of the case of the freshest fish available today.

The first four pictured from left to right (Scottish Salmon, Ahi Tuna, Ocean Trout, and Hamachi yellow tail) are all sashimi grade, and they will happily create a sashimi plate for two or more.

They also have fresh sea urchin (Umi) which they will open for you.  In addition they are oysters (they will shuck to order), calamari, lobster, clams, mussels, octopus, and other seasonal goodies.

Around noon, locals and tourists line us for a sashimi platter or fresh Umi.  We avoid being there at that time, because we would have to wait in line.

Happy Friday to all, and we wish you a wonderful weekend!

Alexandra I love Hamchi clearly the price for the Ahi would make it irresistible for me as well. You can go to Whole Foods or Bristol Farms and multiple by two or three the asking price:)Endre

Morning Alexandra.

Never had Umi, tell me what it tastes like.  I don't know if they have it at any of our local markets

Good morning, Alexandra... now that is one thing I could never "get into" -- sushi and sashimi. (Then again, I'm not much of sea food eater in general.) I travelled in Japan ordering pasta! Fortunately for me, my husband won't eat it either, so we don't need to argue about it.

James Dray I have tasted it a couple of times.  It is OK, and I would not go out of my way to order it or buy it.  Santa Barbara used to send it"s Umi to Japan.  Now, the US population has developped a taste for it, so most the harvest goes to NY which I was told by an Umi diver has more Japanes restaurants than Japan...A

Nina Hollander Ron's parents and his aunt and uncle traveled to Japan.  They felt the same you did, and they did not like kobe beef either.  Aunt Gladys traveled with a salami and Hershey bars...she was super fussy.  A dear friend opened an Italian restaurant in Tokyo.  When it opened it was and still is one the "in" spots.  A

Endre Barath, Jr. the hamachi here comes directly fresh from Japan.  They drive to LAX to pick it up.  We have Axess cards that give us a 10% discount, and a one time a year of 25% at this store. Other businesses use different models. like 50% of on dry cleaning a comforter.  It costs $40 a year and well worth it.  For New Year's Eve we pick up Alaskan King Crab with this bonus.  A

Hi Alexandra... I am so happy to know I was not the only odd-ball when eating in Japan. Of course, I'd have substituted Mars' Dove bars for Hersehy bars... much higher class of chocolate!

Aunt Gladys did not like Dove, she liked boxes of See's candies, and the salami was Hebrew National...she ways brand conscious that way.  Regardless of where they went she always had that stash with her...A
