Poetry Month in Gaithersburg, Maryland
April is national poetry month, and Gaithersburg, which is quickly becoming the literary capital of the mid-Atlantic area, is celebrating with both a proclamation and a poetry contest, part of the 10th Annual Gaithersburg Book Festival. Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman issued the proclamation on April 15 to Lucinda Marshall, who coordinates Diverse Poetry readings at the Gaithersburg Library.
This year's Book Festival high school writing contest invited students throughout the DMV to submit original works of poetry. Ten finalists have been selected and Maryland Poet Laureate Grace Cavalieri, who will also present at the Festival, will select first, second and third place winners. A fan favorite will also be selected. View the works of the finalists and vote here.
This is a City of Gaithersburg, Maryland announcement.
Note that the Gaithersburg Book Festival will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2019
