Saturday Smiles: Pre-Easter Santa Barbara Farmers Market!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants

We found several interesting items at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market.  Pictured above is Spigariello Kale.  Our research revealed that this is a form of kale, here is the explanation:

"Spigariello is a traditional southern Italian specialty sometimes referred to as a "leaf broccoli." It is grown like broccoli rabe in that it does not make a central broccoli "head", but the flavor is much less pungent than rabe. The narrow, very dark green leaves develop a wonderful wavy, curvy, twisting form as the plant matures. The hearty flavor is a cross between broccoli leaves and Tuscan kale or collards."

Pictured above is kohlrabi also known as German turnip.  They are the purple variety and taste the same as the green ones.  Here is more on kohlrabi from Boston organics including recipes.

No explanation needed for these lovely freshly picked snow peas from Tutti's produce.

Daikon and sweet potato varieties were beautifully arranged at Milliken farms.

Wishing you all an abundance of Saturday Smiles!  Enjoy your weekend!

Myrl Jeffcoat , I love snow peas as well as snow pea leaves.  They are full of chorophyll which give you a boost of energy.  At our favorite dim sum place in San Francisco,(Yank Sing in the Rincon Center) they have a dumpling full of chopped snow pea leaves.  We always order two and we love the zing we get from them...

The snow peas are leaping out at me this morning. As always, your Saturday market posts make me so excited for the upcoming gardening season. Bernie has been doing a lot of pre-planting prep, while I weed. Lol.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD we have weeded outside our fence and created an artistic bed with succulents and sculptural driftwood we have picked up on the beach---need more.  Now the weeds have come back near the deck and we have to tackle those as wel as a few other projects...Gardening is a full time job!  A

Oh, the kale and turnips look amazing! I add kale to my smoothies every single morning - it's how I prefer to get the vitamins and minerals kale provides. On occasion, I'll have a salad with kale but, I much prefer spinach. The good thing about adding it to your smoothie, you can't taste it at all!
