If You Don't Know...Please Don't Tell....

By

Social media is often an outlet for emotion...the "done me wrong" song can easily be heard about service companies, retailers....and sometimes...Spouses. You will find the "need to air grievances" peppereddone me wrong throughout Facebook groups and other places. There is a difference between opinion and fact...you don't have to "like" someone...a company or service...but you do have to be honest in your criticism.

If you Spouse ran away with a co-worker and emptied the bank accounts...might not be the best place to air this kind of laundry socially so the world can see it. Comments recently on a similar situation were things like..."Get even...charge every credit card to the max and he'll owe you half."  "He will have to return all the money credit cardsyour parents willed/gave him." Hmmmm...over extend credit ...and now you have bills for legal representation...and undetermined maintenance or child support...probably not a great thought. Money willed or inherited money freely given...nope..not a "recoverable" amount.

The sound of your own Blog....complaint...history of experience that damages another person, company, service...without basis in fact and is published with malicious intent can fall into the hands of lawyers willing to take on suits when such actions are deemed libelous.

Think twice before you hit the keyboard with advice that is beyond your professional scope...or criticism that may be difficult to prove...beyond that infamous...shadow of a doubt. Watch your words ...guard your keyboard...shhhh....there is a time and a place...know what they are and be careful.

This has been a safer than sorrier reminder post brought to you by Sally K. & David L. Hanson, Broker Associates with EXP Realty, honored to be of service for all things real estate in southeastern Wisconsin.

Good morning Sally. Deed done and airing it in public will not change that. Other ways to handle it. Got extra energy, Barbara Todaro has a good suggestion. Enjoy your day!

Sally and David - that is just one additional thing I hate about Facebook posts.  One person said that TSA took his shaving cream and now he must be on a no fly list.  Really??

Oh my gosh yes yes yes. "Think twice before you hit the keyboard with advice that is beyond your professional scope."  I get so sick of "Debbie Downers" and the bad part is, it is usually the same ones that are complaining and gripping about services, people, businesses, etc.  #sayitlouderfortheonesintheback

I have seen a lot of this and it is very sad, things that are private should stay private, not put out for the world to see.

Sally and David, this post needs to be featured! I cringe at some of the things I see shared on social media. There's a time and a place and that's not it.

Good morning Sally K. & David L. Hanson, great advice to all who use social media. It's sad to see so many people who obviously don't have enough common sense behind a keyboard. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Hi Sally K. & David L. Hanson - I am sure that many need to be reminded of this, and if your post helps one person (hopefully more) that would be a great thing.

It always amazes me why people feel a need to use social media to air their negative feelings.

I use social media for business or to catch up with friends and nothing more.

Hi Sally and David... I've neer understood why people "spill" all their personal stuff (good, bad or indifferent) all over social media. As for those of us who work with clients, we should doubly zip our mouths and avoid that keyboard. As for those who constantly air negative opinions about politics, religion, people, etc... I wish they'd stop... I really don't care what they think.

Good advice Sally and David, social media has become a dangerous place because of all the venting and misinformation.  The lastest SriLanka disaster was incited by social media.  A

Sally and David some people talk out of emotion and not knowledge.  Emotion generally produces bad advice.

Hi Sally and David- this is so true. Too often people feel a sense of anonymity on social media and say things or give advice that they might not give in person.

Morning Sally.

Revenge is best served cold.  That is, take your time, be sure you want to carry on, by giving yourself time to cool down.  Once you post it, you can never take it back

It's a shame that this advice is even needed, but it is. Lots of people say all sorts of things online they aren't qualified or knowledgeable enough to say.

Timely and important reminder.  When I read such posts that are filled with venomous replies I often wonder if such words would be spoken face to face.  It's easy to hide behind a computer screen, but I do believe in this age of social media, it can certainly come back to haunt you.  I personally like to think that "people are watching" and what opinion do I want folks to think of ME if I air grievances or ugly words.  Thank you for your post.

Sally: Sage advice! When in doubt, do not post things on social media you may one day regret. It is definitely not the place to air out grievances.
