Green Acres - A Greater Sacramento Garden Center

By
Real Estate Agent with GreatWest Realty DRE# 00827565

One of my favorite Sacramento area nurseries is Green Acres Garden Center.  This year the late rains seem to have left tomato plant stock at Home Depot and Lowe's lacking.  However, I found a large supply with many varieties at locally-owned Green Acres.

Green Acres also has a delightful collection of pottery and statuary.  They are located at 8501 Jackson Road, Sacramento 95826  They can be accessed via the web at: https://idiggreenacres.com

Looks like a place where I would enjoy browsing. Loved that show. I agree that places like these are better than chain stores.

Nina Hollander - After a dark dank long winter, the colors at the nursery were a sight for sore eyes.

Sheila Anderson - I wanted to bring all those flowers home, but I'm planning a trip that is going to keep me busy for awhile, and I don't have proper time to tend them until my return.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - I'm glad you liked 'em.

Brian England - There are acres and acres of green growing things at Green Acres.  Vegetables, flowers, trees, shrubs, you name it.

Myrl, your photos are spectacular! Can I nominate your post to be featured in your Photos group? :-)

Whenever I hear the term "Green Acres", it reminds me of home. That's the nickname for my parents home site. It brings back special memories.

I've found that garden centers and nurseries like the one you featured always have an ample supply of healthy plants and accessories.

Pat Starnes-Front Gate Realty - Thank you for the compliment.  Although I am the founder of three Active Rain Groups - Photos, Old Farts Club and Feather Nesters, I never feature my own posts.  I formed the groups for the pleasure I get from interaction with those who post to them; but the featuring isn't about me, it's about bringing other folks to the attention of members.

Myrl, I understand why you don't feature your own posts, but it was a compliment to the quality of your photos. They are exquisite! I'll have to join the third group, Feather Nesters. I wasn't aware of it.

One of my daughters in Orlando just purchased 5 beautiful and 8-10 ft. tall palm trees from a local nursery this week and the nursery staff came out and planted the tall, beautiful and very healthy palms yesterday - no extra charge.  And all for the price of $150.00 and less for each palm.  Made a great lot line divider and the trees in a number of ways surpassed the same type trees, but 4 - 5 ft palm trees at Home Depot and Lowes.

Myrl, supporting local businesses (especially nurseries!) is so important, as it's a  labor of love, certainly. When we left "The Big House" (our home on the lake to the tune of 6210 sq ft), for a 1500 sq. ft ranch (ugh) and 5 AC, I told everyone that I started singing the words to the show Green Acres, as I was leaving Park Ave. and heading for Green Acres!!

We are debt-free, have a beautiful private vista, a horse and mule and now 3 Golden Retrievers and a stunning creek boundary. Almost off-the-grid. Love! I now welcome Green Acres! (We're On Golden Ranch. I came up with this sign design from 3 photos I took. )

Green Acres had become my go-to place for gardening in Sacramento after Capitol Nursery on Freeport closed. Because there was no other place to go, even though it is a drive from Land Park. Of course, now, we have several other nurseries closer to my home such as Oak Park on Broadway and the East Sacramento nursery on 55th Street. But even those are not as huge as Green Acres.
