Pondering That Elephant In The Room

That Elephant In The Room

You might be able to see it.  Yes, over there.  Grey, Gray or even possibly pink.  And then again, it might not be quite so clear.  Not tangible.  Not quite.

Large and not so large too.  Real or imaginary.  The likelihood of many scenarios are abundant when the subject is brought to attention.  It's the ideal pondering moment. Or two.

Things, like this and like life, are not that simple.  Far from it. Events, recent and not-so-recent, tell us such things are far from simple.

When there's an elephant in the room, introduce him

                                                                                                       Randy Pausch

How do you approach the elephant in the room?

With discussion.  Action.  Asking questions.  Careful listening.  More questions.  Analysis.  Some issues can be resolved swiftly.  Others not so much. And regardless of the size of the elephant - it's a gargantuan task.  No denying that.

Answers?   No secret sauce or formula here. Although we may wish it to be so.

The elephant in the room.  Approach it with an open mind.  Confidently.

Figuratively, I imagine grabbing it by the trunk of the matter may make sense.

Are there two sides of the story?  Without a doubt.  Likely more.   Very likely.

Hi Michael:

Better to figure out what the issue is, and deal with it and find a solution then let it linger. It likely won’t go away.

Jeff

John Wiley - things can certainy escalate from small to large quickly.

Jeff Dowler, CRS - lingering is like festering.  Not good.

Chris Ann Cleland - getting to the root issue is not easy.

Mary Hutchison, SRES, ABR - baby elephants are still elephants.

Michael Jacobs - Is there an elephant in the room? I don't know. However, there are times when I felt it. Ignore the elephant? It just gets bigger. Fear the elephant? Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. He that is down need fear no fall. Cure the elephant syndrome? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; what can't be cured must be endured. Courage! It's all about having the courage to do the right thing.

Congratulations on the feature! You got a lot of people doing some critical thinking!

Michael Jacobs - Randy Pausch did great things up until the very end. His lecture was really memorable. He left his audience thinking about achieving.

You did a great job on this post.

Hey Michael Jacobs I am loving your ponder posts! It's been a joke of ours for years when an obvious 'elephant' comes walking into a room or situation. Somethings (people) never change and others keep marching on make one day better than the last!  I prefer to be in the second group!
