No, Not A Mayday But May Day For Sure

Pondering On The First Again

No, Not A Mayday But May Day For Sure There is  no reason for alarm,  No concerns.  Relax.  Be Happy.

While things may not be perfect - what is "perfect" anyhow?  Let's make the most of the day.  Every day.  And as I have said before, let's make the most of every moment.  Mayday as you likely know is the word used internationally as a radio distress signal.

And today is once again the first day of the month.   May 1 is known as May Day.  A day of  tribute(but not typically a paid day off from work, mind you) for laborers and workers.  Unlike Labor Day, there is no federal holiday today for this nearly worldwide event  Although we have already marked the official start of the Spring season, this day continues the welcoming of the season.  Rebirth should be repeated often I guess.

It's a rather confusing holiday of sorts to me actually ever since I was a child.  It kind of made sense that Mayday and May Day were so similar.  Well, I digress.  I guess I could ponder.  But I understand that there might be merrymaking on the agenda.

As for me, on this particular first day of May, I will take more festiveness of any kind rather than distress.  I mean it's an option, right?  And if it works today why not everyday?

Good morning, Michael... when we lived in Europe, May Day was a huge holiday and generated paid days off and gifts of flowers. I have always personally associated it with communism.

Kevin J. May - good for you!

Kat Palmiotti - it sounds as if your planning the right things.

James Dray - the weather in many parts of the country is downright frightful.  Stay safe.

Nina Hollander - I grew up thinking of the celebrations in other countries and wondering how appropriate it was to the United States.  Combine that with Law Day presentations, no wonder I started pondering in elementary school.  Yeah, just a bit confusing if you ask me.

Hi Michael... I get it. When I lived overseas, we had months where there would be at least three or four national, paid holidays that are not observed here in the USA.

Michael, the first of May is always a day I look forward to. Spring is in full swing, the flowers are blooming, and the sun is shining. No Mayday here, I'm going to step away from work for a couple of hours today and be grateful for a stroll at the park with the dogs.

Nina Hollander - I remember the first time I went to Europe and heard about such events and wondering.  Then the planned strikes for about an hour or two and then all work resumed.  Enlightening.

Amanda S. Davidson - Happy May Day and I am glad to hear of no distress.

Michael,

When we lived in Brentwood, there was a Masonic retirement home on Sunset near Barrington.  They always put up a Maypole that stayed up with bright ribbons all of May.  Then Spielberg bought it, and changed the us to a private school for his kids.  Although there was a lot of protest from all the residents, he won but was obliged to add another lane to Sunset for picking up the kids...It did not alleviate the traffic...I loved seeing the Maypole.  A

Oh my gosh... all those strikes in France... I think I put those out of my mind... but they could really mess up a day, Michael.

Sheila Anderson - thank you.

Alexandra Ron and Alexandra Seigel - ah, yes the maypole.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 - many parts of the country need this colorful day of celebration.

Nina Hollander - I remember to local residents seemed to take the strikes in stride.   Disruptive.  To say the least.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - definitely a festive time in So Cal but not so much in Mexico I have heard.  It's interesting how holiday traditions/events vary by location.

Michael-I have vague remembrances of people dancing around a Maypole, but I also associate it with Russian tanks and parades.

Kathy Streib - I doubt Houston had a good representation of Russian tanks.  Not sure since I have yet to visit the city but I kinda doubt it.
