Declutter Your Homes Without an Expert

DeClutter your Home Without an ExpertDo you think you need Netflix and Marie Kondo to tackle the clutter in your home? Well, you may be surprised to learn that tidying up can actually be pretty easy. It can even be somewhat fun if you’re up to the task. So, how can you clean your home without a lot of hassle and headache? By using the super simple hacks we’ve suggested below to declutter and clean your home.

You Can Make More Space

When you live in a smaller home, you need to get creative to create more storage in your tiny space. One area where you will want to concentrate these crafty organizing efforts is in your bedroom. Having a clean, neat bedroom can actually help you get better sleep. It’s in your best interest, then, not to let any potential storage space go unused. Use boxes to stash things under your bed; make a storage ottoman out of wooden crates; or do away with a stationary bed altogether. The latest Murphy bed options make that last part much more doable. Not only that, but most modern Murphy beds are just as comfortable and affordable as other standard bed frames and mattresses. Use these same principles to create fitting storage space
into other rooms in your home, too.

Hiring Cleaners May Help

DeClutter your Home Without an ExpertHiring a professional organizer like Marie Kondo often requires paying high prices. If you don’t have that kind of room in your budget, know that you can complete most of the decluttering and cleaning on your own. Even high and tight spaces can become more accessible with the right tools and techniques. Pick up extendable tools to reach the tops of cabinets, ceiling fans, and other corners throughout your home. If your disability makes it difficult or stressful to use these tools, you can also think about hiring someone to help with cleaning challenges. Even if it’s only a few times a month, having the right cleaning pro take care
of some of the tidying can take a lot of pressure off you and free up your time for tasks that are more fun.

Put Unwanted Items to Better Use

As you go through your home, you may be wondering what to do with the stuff that won’t fit into your refreshed storage spaces. If you are feeling creative, you could repurpose household items for other practical uses. You can craft new shelves out of old books or even make a rustic fire pit out of those old rims in your garage. There are many fun ways to upcycle even the most random items and junk, but you will ultimately end up with stuff that just needs to go. If you do have things you no longer need but that are still working, you can consider donating them to charity. Many nonprofits can even schedule a donation pickup if you have bulky goods to get rid of, or if getting around town is a challenge for you.

Feel More Joy with Less Clutter

After reading through the tips above, you may wonder what the point of all this cleaning and decluttering is to begin with. While having a tidy home is aesthetically pleasing, it can also benefit your health in several significant ways. You may find it easier to relax and sleep well in an organized bedroom, whereas cutting down on clutter opens you up to more enjoyable opportunities to have friends and family over. If you use a walker or wheelchair, getting rid of clutter and mess can also make getting around much safer. The best part about all of these tidy home benefits: Even simple cleaning habits can make maintaining your newly decluttered home easy. Before you start your day, try making your bed or simply put things back in their place when you’re done with them to keep future cleaning from being overwhelming. An expert can definitely make organizing easier. However, why go through the work and expense of hiring an organizing pro when you can easily put your home in order on your own? You just need to be creative, patient, and committed to clearing the chaos.

There's something about decluttering. When you have younger children, it's even more difficult to keep the clutter cleared. These are some excellent suggestions on how to accomplish that. Thanks for sharing.

Leland Schwab These are all very practical ideas, concisely presented, and are tremendously valuable. But please please don't assume that all people can always declutter without some help: there can be very real, very difficult challenges getting in a person's way, anything from ADD to trauma-survivorship. It's wonderful when someone can grab some techniques and roar on, but just as OK if someone needs help and/or a more intimate method for being taught. All of us who are the best at Professional Organizing hope our clients will eventually graduate to keeping themselves organized without our help, but we also know it has to be at the client's pace.
