The team from the Sanibel Fire and Rescue District won the Lee County Chili Challenge held April 13.
Several main ingredients of the winning chili recipe were sponsored by the butcher shop at Bailey’s General Store.
The event raised more than $3,000 benefiting local causes including Honor Flight, South Trail Fire District Firefighter Charlie Russo and Injured Warriors Fund.
The Sanibel Fire District, Fort Myers Fire Department, South Trail Fire and Rescue, Estero Fire Rescue, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, South Trail Fire District Benevolent Association, Honor Flight, Marine Corps League, U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 166, and American Legion Post #38 all competed with chili cooking teams.
The next Lee County Chili Challenge is scheduled for February 1, 2020 at Stu’s Motorcycle Shop in Fort Myers.
