Let's start with the really annoying (info aggregator) company MyLife.com. This was the absolute worst with them having my age, race, income & religion listed. I don't know how or where they got the info but it really didn't matter - it made me mad plus it was all incorrect. Most of all I was miffed over my listed age. Civilized folk just don't do that.
For removal, go to the offending website & search around for the 'Contact Us' sections. There are disclaimers all over the place that mention how they do not have to remove you. I do not believe this to be true. One or 2 of them do mention that they have to remove you if you request it in writing. Does not say how long it will take though.
So I have to report that within a week, my information was no longer listed. When I looked for my name on MyLife, 6 other people showed & I DID NOT even though Google still had my name listed. I'm going to assume this because I have a somewhat common name. Either way, I HAVE DISAPPEARED which is what I was going after.
I asked 5 total sites to remove any trace of me & another one just today (Spokeo) which I will also monitor.
Actually just writing this post is making me nervous as will this make me pop up again or show up in Google & I have to start all over again? Hope not.
Would like to thank Ryan Huggins for writing a great post on how to make yourself disappear if you have to on the internet. I know that we all have to be found on the web but I don't think that my race or my religion needs to be listed anywhere. For real estate, it might be an address & really just the phone number.
Good luck to you in your removal adventure! The world is becoming a scary place.
