However, you still need to keep yourself updated about different important aspects and attributes of having solar panels on your roof.

Before you decide to install solar panels, it is important to consider the strength and capacity of your roofing system. You need to get your roof assessed to see whether it can take the burden of solar panels for a longer time period or not.

If you find your roof in a weak state, it is better to get it repaired or replaced before the installation. Otherwise, you might end up losing a lot of dollars you invest in it.

If you want to make the most out of your investment, you need to consider the shape of your roof as well. Since roofs come in different shapes and sizes, you need to make sure that your specific roof shape has enough space for solar panels.

However, if you doubt that space is not enough, it is better to think about an alternative solution to save your money.

The direction of the slopes of your roof is another important aspect to consider before making such an important decision of your life. If you want the solar panels to generate maximum power for your home, it must be placed in a specific direction.

Although some experts suggest that solar panels must face the south or west, you still need to get the direction determined by a renowned and reliable professional roofing contractor before the placement of panels.

You also need to consider the warranty your roofing system is left with. If your roofing system can still last for more than 20-30 years, it is suggested to get the solar panels installed after checking other parameters.

But if your roof is about to exceed its age limit and there won’t be any warranty left after a few years, you need to get a new roof to install panels on it.

You need to get different price quotes for solar panels and equipment to make a better comparison and analysis. There are many solar solutions today offers free online real quotes which you can get just with a click. It would help you make a suitable decision for your roof.

Drainage System

Usually, the drainage system of a roof also gets affected by the installation of solar panels. It can result in flooding and stagnant water as the panels can cause hindrance in the flow of water.

Another thing to consider ...if you live in an HOA, you will probably have to get approval from the building committee before installing.

Dear Asad,

Another consideration is whether you want to buy or lease. Leasing can be a problem, when you want to resell, because the value is usually a multiple of buying the panels outright.
