How's the market?

i'd be interested to hear from others about how the market is in their area.  Here, in Santa Cruz we have the dubious distinction of being the least affordable market in the country.  We have more people who cannot afford to live here working here now.

Hi Judy - I grew up hanging out in Santa Cruz, and still love it! It's easy to understand why it's one of the most expensive places in the country. It's unfortunate, though, that the cost of housing is making it a place where only the elite can afford to buy.  The same goes for the entire coastal region from Monterey Bay to San Francisco! The Palo Alto market, where I now live, is still seeing multiple offer situations.

Hi Judy - WELCOME to the AR community!  Here in Indianapolis we have a very affordable market!  There's a lot of production building going on (eating up the farmland) which makes new construction very affordable as well as keeping the prices down on existing housing.  My last closing was a 2800 sq. ft. home, 5 years old, fireplace, 3BR, 2 1/2 BA, etc.  sold for $149900.  Bet you can't do that in Santa Cruz!

You still get a lot of house for your money in Houston.  We have lots of people moving and investing from California.  I guess that would be why.
