Entre Tinta y Lucha: 45 Years of Self-Help Graphic & Art
Cannon Art Gallery March Through June 2019 Exhibit
The city-owned Walter D. Cannon Art Gallery at the Dove Library complex in South Carlsbad is a popular city-owned gallery offering highly-regarded multiple exhibits each year.
The current exhibition, Entre Tinta y Lucha: 45 Years of Self-Help Graphics and Art, is another winner, and well worth a visit (“Between Ink and Struggle/Fight…”).
“Self-Help Graphics and Art (SHG) is a community center in East Los Angeles that is dedicated to the creation and promotion of new works by Latinx and Chicanx artists through experimental and innovative print-making techniques.” (taken from the exhibition’s marketing postcard).
The SHG community center, a non-profit organization, has been around since 1973, providing an arena for community and international artists to create and produce their works. The center assists with tools, space, promotion, funds, and distribution of art works from a diverse artist community.
Many of the works I saw were serigraphs but there were some original works as well.
Entre Tinta y Lucha, the 45th anniversary exhibition, will be on display until June 9, 2019.
