Wordless Wednesday...Nesting Season Remembered

We’ve been working on making our back yard somewhat of a sanctuary for our local birds and guests.

We now have a birdhouse that we hope will attract a lovely bluebird couple we’ve seen at one of our “open houses.”

I was reminded of the many birds and other creatures we were able to see when we lived in Delray Beach and walked out at Green Cay Wetlands.

This is a Common Moorhen (or Common Gallinule).

Her eggs were perfectly formed...as only Mother Nature would have it.

Hope you have a chance to get out and see the wonderful works of Mother Nature!

Kathy,

Your photos are lovely.  It is nice to have a bird sanctuary. We have lots of birds near us including raptors.  A

Nothing like Mother Nature! We have turned our yard into a bird and butterfly area. It is fun to watch them (especially the large cranes) come through and rest for a while.

There is something extra special about having a mother bird nest close to our homes.  I need to repair or replace a couple birdhouses I've had, so I can once again have the experience.

Blue birds are one of my favorite birds. I had them in Mom's backyard when I lived there.  Hope you entice them to a birdhouse. No perch required on the birdhouse. They love mealworms.

Myrl Jeffcoat we remember the peahen from last year that laid her eggs in our yard. That was so special.

Sharon Lee we are hoping to attract bluebirds and have seen one or two. Our birdhouse has a perch but not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886 I don't think they'll come to our yard...they heard that Larry used to hunt them.

If you want to entice the bluebirds then you need a house without perch. Other birds will be able to  get in with a perch and some will kill the bluebirds an any eggs.

We have a sweet little mama bird on a nest of three eggs right now in a bush just outside the front door. I check in on her every day. Rick has seen the eggs, but every time I peek in Mama is there and the eggs are under her.
