What is wrong with calling and asking if you want to sell your home?

The simple answer is when a 33 year Veteran of the Real Estate Business gets the call from a franchise located a town over. You are going to want to hear this.... They called to let me know they had a buyer interested in buying my Manchester NH area home. Everything is always for sale, and I could not wait to hear what their offer was.


I started by asking which property they were interested in as I own more than one property. The eager agent got the sound of excitement when i said that. They then knocked me off my seat when the said "yes., the one at Po box 4783." As I picked myself up, I asked "if they really had a buyer for the post office?" The reply was classic, "what post office?"


Obviously they bought a list. On that list was my mailing address, a post office box. I was to anxius to hear what they would say next to hang up. I asked what the offer would be. The agent was really confused now. The poor person was set up to fail, most likely stuck in a cubicle given a list to call. I wont mention I am on the federal do not call list and they called my private number.


After asking when I can expect a check from their buyer on a home they never saw, that does not really exist, there was more silence. I could not continue and let them know who I was. I am not sure whether to call the managing broker or let it go. I am sure there is many more new agents all doing the same thing for them, all with a few pages of that outdated list.


So if you own a property and you want to sell it, choose a locally owned, full time agent who knows how to list and sell homes. Stay away from the cold callers.



Perhaps the MOST IMPORTANT message is to share with every consumer that my philosophy is simple, provide more personal and professional service to guide my clients through each step of the buying or selling process. All Agents are not created equal and every buyer or seller should take the time to hire the BEST not just the biggest. Those that hire me, find a dedication like no other.

Oh boy.  What a great way to turn it around.  Cold calls are plain rude   IMHO, they shouldn’t be part of lead generation- we are all sick of people calling us all of the time to sell us something.

Good grief!  My poor seller got a call like this.  Nevermind the property is listed with me. They went right to her.  And the list they purchased had her work number.  Bizzare.  Nonetheless, I called them and they had no information on what an offer would be.  It was such a waste of time.
