Who else remembers the ditty...
"Find a penny,
Pick it up,
All the day
You'll have good luck"?
While penny candy is now a thing of the past, back in the 1960's one could buy individual candies for one penny-and some where priced at 2 for 1 cent!
Today the penny does not buy much of anything. In fact, the metal value and cost of minting pennies exceed their face value. Many nations have stopped minting equivalent value coins and efforts are being made to end the routine use of pennies in several countries including the United States.
Back when pennies were first minted in 1793 in the United States, they were made of copper.
