Breaking The Ice

Pondering Breaking The Ice

Breaking The Ice

This term may have different meanings around the country and during certain times of the year.  But I was pondering things while going through some questions in the ActiveRain Q&A section recently.

While answers often depend on the details of a situation, the location and so many other factors much can be solved or resolved with a conversation.

A meaningful dialogue.  You know, just talking.  One person starts and then another listens, then responds.  You likely understand the concept.  Probably have even practiced it from time to time.  Successfully too I imagine.

It can happen in real estate and in all forms industry-related.  On ActiveRain.  And most importantly, in real life.  Not so difficult.  Well, so it seems.  Breaking The Ice can certainly be the act that refreshes, right?

The photo in this post was taken by Michael Jacobs at the Old Pasadena "hot spot" Edwin Mills By Equator.  Conversation and more can be experienced at this Old Pasadena favorite.

Michael Jacobs - "Breaking the Ice," can warm a heart, trigger a memory, break down walls, make or break a friendship. "The key is to break the ice and listen, really, really listen.

In the business of real estate, you can't just rely on your sphere or past clients. There comes a time when one must have the courage to "break the ice" and listen.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - and that's the opportunity that we can make happen. We each have that power to break the ice.  Breakdown those walls.  Soar through glass ceilings.  It's not just for Superman or a Superwoman.  But available to each of us to achieve in our own ways.  On our own terms.

"Breaking The Ice can certainly be the act that refreshes, right?"  After pondering that sentence, I have decided I really like it, Michael!

Debe Maxwell, CRS - the unsaid or those delivered subtly such as what we "see" between the lines often speak volumes.

It's surprising just how easy you can find yourself in deep conversation with a stranger. I found myself saying "great talking with you!" to the guy behind me at check-out at grocery store this weekend. One little comment to him led to us having a great chat in line. He told me all about his recent attendance at a Bruins game.

Hockey....ice....must be some connection there. LOL

Hi Michael Jacobs, I got drifted away after reading your post and the comments. One simple word, one nice gesture, showing we are listening, engaging in meaningful conversations all sound good but some people are not open to it. Sometimes, I rather see some stay silent than utter words that are not so pleasing. Regardless, we see each other, perhaps, mostly when we read between the lines.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - one of many.  Thankfully.

Ricardo Mello - thank you.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - imagine the possibilities if you had enlisted.

Sharon Tara - definitely a connection. Perhaps chillingly so.

Beth Atalay - I completely understand.  Learning to read/understand what is read between the lines is a great trait to master.

"Breaking the ice" often begins with questions that lead to a spot of common interest. At least, that's when it really kicks into gear for me. Ah ha! I find, when there is little common ground, it's pretty difficult to find an area of true and authentic exchange.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - "common bond" is important but sometimes achieved in the most unlikely ways.  Authentic is a great way to describe that process.  I like it.

Joan Cox - deinitely a dating aspect can come to mind.
