I will never understand it. I got 38 views on a post and no comments. Don't like what you read....? Simply say hello and goodbye, but please say something. I have read posts that I simply can't understand or absolutely despise but I spent the time finishing it so I say something. Won't you please.
Maybe Bob, but I'm not sure. TY Sheila

There is something else to also consider. If we only allow ActiveRain members to comment on our blogs, than the general public which reads our blog won't be able to comment.

I'm not addressing "Members Only" posts. I'm referring to the selection of who we allow to comment on our posts - both public and member only. Even on public posts, the default is that non-members are not allowed to comment, unless you click on the box that allows them to.
I've really noticed that non-members seldom post comments on anyone's posts. It's kind of interesting to note when you read through comments of AR posts. Members all have their pictures showing, but you rarely find a comment without a picture, and we rarely see "anonymous" posts. I generally only make my posts capable of receiving comments from AR members. The reason I do that is because AR members pretty much adhere to some semblance of civility, that the general "social media" public may not respect!

Well, I just checked, and it appears things have changed from what I remember. If a non-member wishes to comment on a post, they will see this little box. They must register to comment. I like that. I think that control has helped keep the civility that the ActiveRain community has, without outside run of the mill "social media" chaos, that is seen on other platforms. Especially, when given the opportunity to comment anonymously.

Thanks myrl. I never saw that before but I am registered so I wouldn't. Sheila
That's true. I had to logout, and then attempt to comment on this post, to see the little box I pasted in comment #35. I'm really glad AR has it. It saves us a whole lot of disruption and chaos that is often experienced on other social media like Facebook!

I've had it happen too. Often, if I'm really pressed for time, I might quickly scan a post with the thought of returning to comment. I'm guessing there are a few times when I might forget to return. Maybe that's a possibility for a few of the views...

Oh well so much for my idea, maybe you need to revisit the subject you are writing about and the audience? Just a thought, Endre
