Closing At the Hospital - An Emond Team Client Story

Real Estate Agent with Mindful Living Realty

At closings, us REALTORS are usually just there to smile, tell jokes, and answer questions.

At the closing with Dusty and Maggie, I got to do a whole lot more!

With another child on the way and a move from Georgia, Dusty and Maggie were looking for that family home close to Rapid City with a yard. We found a home with plenty of bedrooms and space in a Black Hawk neighborhood.

Part of the financing required signatures from Dusty’s father who was still on the east coast. Easy stuff with our digital signature system!

With closing just a few days away, I got the word Maggie was in labor.

Fortunately, the Title Company was gracious enough to come to the hospital. We had a closing in the delivery recovery room!

While Dusty and Maggie signed, I got my baby fix in holding the newborn (after 4 kids, I didn’t want any more…but holding a new one is always amazing!). I even sent pictures to my wife so she’d get jealous!

That was one of my favorite closings. So many great memories!

No matter your situation, we do everything we can to accommodate what you need and make your home buying experience an AMAZING one!

What a wonderful closing - and love that the Title company sent a representative.  It's a memorable and joyous occassion any time a baby is born, but add a new home to the mix and it's off the charts.  Congratulations to all. D

I call these if you are in the business long enough you will experience all kinds of things.

Mine was an Expectant Mom going into labor at closing, and refusing to go to the hospital until the Closing Officer confirmed the closing was done. There we were clocking the contractions, and helping her to breathe during them.

Another Expectant Mom was non-negotiable on procuring occupancy on the day of closing. Totally stressed the Seller who wanted a bit more time after the closing. One of the quietest closings I ever attended, because the Seller was so angry at the Buyer for not being flexible. I was glad I was there to keep everyone calm. A whole lot of quiet anger filled this atmosphere of an otherwise very smooth closing.

Thanks for sharing that heartwarming story. I hope that couple has plenty of friends to help them move - packing, moving, and unpacking can't be easy for Mom with a new baby to care for!

I'm so relieved it was a birth in the hospital....when I read the title I was certain that a seller was dying or elderly or something very sad.

Ah!  I never thought about it that way...  :)  Yes - I'm glad it was a happy moment not a sad one!

Hi Tristan:

That's a great story and a wonderful photo. Hope the parents got to hold their baby before you! LOL.

I had a new Mom go into labor the day she was supposed to sign loan docs so closing was delayed a couple of days. Sellers were fine with that and understood.

I tried not to act too excited... :)  It was so fun!  I think the sellers would have understood as well, but they were so happy to get it done.
