DIY Walking Path in 7 Steps
A walking path in a garden or back yard is not only functional but can also be aesthetically pleasing.
designing your own rock path is going to be less expensive then hiring someone else to do it for you, with the added joy of using your creative side to build something that will last years!
Dig! Dig the ground out where you will lay the walking path material. Depending on what kind of material you are using for the path depends on how far you should dig. Leave a little more depth, an inch or two, for placing sand to level out the ground.
Install edging. Use some 1x4’s or repurpose old wood you have laying around to create the framing structure.
Landscape fabric will help keep weeds out of the path. This saves time and energy later on in your gardening experience with pulling and killing pesky weeds.
Pour Sand. You want to use sand to help level out the ground so that your pathway is level, preventing water pooling and tripping hazards. As you lay the sand, be sure to water it with a fine spray to help pack the sand evenly.
Pack the sand down and keep it moist.
Add your material! This is where the creativity comes in to play! Place your steppingstone however you want them to appear, or the gravel, or the mulch.
If you use steppingstone, fill in the gaps with something smaller like decomposed granite, or any pebbles of your choice.
