Your House Is For Rent. No It's Not!
Check, check and RECHECK! This is certainly a valuable Buyer BEWARE Scam to learn about! Recently, I did a Google Search on myself to make sure all my Social Media links were working properly, that contact information updates had been properly made (such as a NEW EFAX Service #) and to see what the Consumer sees thru their eyes. There’s a Chrome feature called Incognito that lets you view all this unnoticed! Anyway, someone was advertising using my name with leads funneled to a New York, not Maryland, location. UH HUH. UH OH. Check, check and RECHECK!
A caller yesterday asking about one of my listings. He was interested in renting.
'Sorry Sir but that home is not for rent.' ' But the internet says it is.'
He sent me a link from Craig's list and it says $750 a month.
I looked and there is a photo of my property, with my MLS verbiage and sure enough, it says it IS for rent. This caller was given the name of the owner (NOT) and a story of why they were moving. He drove by the property, saw my sign and called me. He said it sounded too good to be true...a single family home, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, central air, a nice lot...what could be wrong?
What was wrong?
This house is NOT for rent!
This is a SCAM!
I shared this information with the owner along with all the links found and he is going to follow through with filing a report.
Have you had this kind of SCAM?
How did you handle it?
How can we protect our sellers?
How can we protect the general public? Would really like to hear from any of you who have had this experience.
