June is Homeownership Month - Thoughts From Our Home in Camas, WA

Real Estate Broker/Owner with ViewHomes of Clark County - Nature As Neighbors

June is Home Ownership Month - There's No Place like Home!

We are back home after a wonderful whirlwind trip to Juneau, Alaska. While it's fabulous to travel and see family, there really is no place like home.  Our vegetable garden is really taking off and the strawberries, fig tree, and fruit trees look as if they will produce well this year.

The kitchen remodel, like many before it, is behind schedule. Our contractor reordered three replacement cabinets due to various reasons - we concur with his decision. However, it feels a bit out of whack as we continue glamping at home. The toughest part is the meal prep without a sink, stove, oven, and counter-tops.

Regardless, we know the sacrifice is worth it. Not only can a kitchen remodel offer one of the biggest return on investment, but we also look forward to the joy of cooking in a beautiful and well-appointed kitchen. Happily, this long-awaited remodel will give us both.

Celebrating the Soul of a Home

Home is a true reflection of who we are as people. It often showcases our values and interests. Ever walk into a home and find art representations from around the world? We have, and know instantly the owners love to travel. Being surrounded by things we love further enhances the power of home as a respite - a place where you rejuvenate and thrive.

Admittedly, owning a home is often a good financial decision. It also gives you the freedom to paint and decorate and improve things to your specific needs and tastes. At its finest, homeownership gives us the ability to create a space that reflects the essence of who we are as people.

We loved spending time at our son's home in Juneau, Alaska, It is filled with reminders of the family's outdoor lifestyle and Sean's love of music ( there are guitars everywhere), and generally music playing through indoor/outdoor speakers. It also reflects the beautiful Alaska surroundings.

No Place Like Home

When we opened the door upon our return, it was like getting a familiar hug, Mac bounded happily to greet us, mom came from her room to say hello. How wonderful to be reunited with our beloved pet, mom, and favorite things. Our life, our souls were back in sync.  Welcome home. There is no place like it.

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.

Hi Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD Welcome Home! I agree there is not place like the feeling of home and being home!  I know it's tough making it through a kitchen remodel, been there done that. As you said, once it's done you will love your new well appointed kitchen and everything will have it's place. We absolutely love our 4 year old kitchen to this day!

Hi Debb... there really is no place like home. I know my home reflects my life's experiences and travels -- people always comment on that. When I work with clients who are having a tough time deciding between a couple of homes, I always advise them to shut their eyes and in their mind's eye see where the see themselves coming home after a trip, after a long day at work, to celebrate a holiday. The answer usually comes quickly.

Meantime, hopefully your kitchen renovation will get back on track soon. And I know that once it's complete you'll forget the trials and tribulations and will simply enjoy the new kitchen.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - Quincy was playing hard to get. Leave me for two weeks? Oh no, you don't. Hahaha.  I know your home is filled with things that make your souls sing - including fresh orchids.

Will Hamm I am missing my Denver girls and need to plan a trip there soon. Although, given your weird and cold weather, I'm glad it's not this week.

Debe Maxwell, CRS thank you for the challenge. It was so apropos as I have been thinking about "home" and the value of having one that is our very own. ;)

Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886 I know you get it. Love to go, but when we return - it's tres magnifique.  As for the kitchen, we're trying to make fun of  the inconvenience of it all. A good sense of humor - and an eye on the prize keeps us in pretty good spirits. Thanks for the support though, appreciated.

Nina Hollander what a great idea for your clients. Very soulful. As for the kitchen, we are hanging in there and I keep looking at all the beautiful white kitchens on Pinterest and visualize  myself happily cooking. It will happen before we know it. D

Having a place to call home and having it be our own is a wonderful thing.  Even if the remodel project takes longer than expected, renters don't get their homes remodeled.

Hi Debb,
It is always interesting to go into someone's home that you've never been in before and see how they've made it "their home".  One of the great advantages of owning is you can do anything you want to it, without getting permission... unless, of course, you have HOA's to restrict.  The inside, though, is absolutely your untethered domain.

The financial advantages of owning a home after retirement is especially satisfying.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD there really is no place like home. I find I don't travel as much as I used too because I miss the dogs too much. I know Mac was thrilled to have you back. Your kitchen remodel will add to your connection with your home and be well worth the wait. Can't wait to see the finished product!
