There are several factors that determine how long your carpet will take to dry after cleaning. Similarly, you can speed up the drying process with a few handy tips. Here are a few factors to consider when determining how to dry carpet after carpet cleaning.

How to Dry Carpet After Carpet Cleaning - Keep Your Carpet Mold Free
The carpet cleaning method you select will often be the biggest factor in determining carpet drying time, followed closely by the technician’s skill level. Although steam cleaning (hot water extraction) yields the best results for your carpet, it has one major drawback, and that’s drying time. This is the same cleaning method most large carpet manufacturers require for the maintenance of stain and wear warranties.

The steam cleaning method involves using heated water that’s put under high pressure to rinse soil out of your carpet. Although a very strong vacuum system will be used to remove most of the water, your carpet will still be left sufficiently damp. As such, this cleaning method can take anywhere from 6-12 hours for your carpet to dry. Nonetheless, you can shorten the drying time by using a ceiling fan or maybe leaving some windows open to provide additional airflow.
Dry cleaning systems, on the other hand, provide much shorter drying times (typically about 2-4 hours) while still resulting in an acceptably clean carpet.

How Your Carpet was Cleaned
The second most critical factor that will affect your carpet’s drying time is the service technician’s experience and dedication. Only a seasoned professional has the training and experience to use the right amount of water to achieve a clean carpet and spend enough time vacuuming off excess water. Poorly trained and inexperienced technicians will leave your carpet soaking wet and potentially cause damage due to excess water.

Humidity
Humidity is the third factor that affects carpet drying time. Carpets dry by evaporation, so the humidity, both in your premises as well as outside, can make a significant difference in your carpet’s ultimate drying time. Moisture in your carpet has to evaporate into the air and this only happens if the air is dryer than your carpet. As such, humid conditions result in longer carpet drying times. Here’s what you can do to reduce carpet drying times and put your carpet back to regular use sooner.
- Don’t go too long before scheduling a professional carpet cleaning. A heavier soil load means more water and effort to clean the carpet, which translates to longer drying times.
- Open some windows to increase the airflow and speed up the drying process.
- Turn on your AC. This trick works best on colder days when it’s not ideal to open your windows.
- Turn on your ceiling fans to circulate air over your carpet and make it drier, quicker.
- Ask your professional cleaners to use a blower to help dry out the carpet in areas they’ve finished cleaning.

Bottom Line
With these tips on how to dry carpet after carpet cleaning, you can put your carpet back to use sooner. For the best results, increase the airflow as much as possible. Also, remember it is better to routinely clean your carpets. If you wait too long it requires more water to remove the debris, which makes your carpet more wet.
