Don't get caught "Riding Dirty!" Redux

By
Real Estate Agent with Prado Real Estate South UT DRE# 6541633-SA00

A question was recently asked in the Q & A section about whether it is important for real estate professionals to have a nice car?  Based on experience, my answer was...If it is kept clean - inside and out - it should not matter.

When clients are coming to town, I will still wash my car whether they ride with me or not. Every single time it is pertinent to make a great first impression, we all know that we very rarely get a second chance to prove ourselves.

And your thoughts?

Don't get caught "Riding Dirty!" ReduxDon't get caught

Soda cans, fast food bags, old newspapers, candy wrappers and sticky suckers have a place and it's called a garbage can, not the interior of your car. During our weekly Board Tour meeting an agent stood up and told everyone how he has gained other people's clients because their car was filthy and unkempt. I can believe it!

Take heed salespeople. You could lose your clients due to a poor first impression.

Some options to ensure a pristine vehicle:

  • Avoid eating and drinking on the go
  • Look at the interior from the clients view
  • Get the seats deep cleaned every few months
  • Take everything with you as you leave every time
  • Pay someone to wash and detail once a week
  • Buy a discount booklet from the local car wash business

If you take the time to dress appropriately for your clients, maintain the same high standards for your car and they will most definitely appreciate it. And that agent with the unclean vehicle will have to find other ways to gain clients!

No "Riding Dirty!" here!

Hello Wanda - cleanliness is important obviously.  While other things "should" not matter they can be indicators that influence.  Prospective clients.  Ourselves.  Others.

I'm with you on this topic Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! ! I always have a clean car.  It's weird to see other sales people with all kinds of crap in their cars -  like old food stuff, clothes,  you name it. We were out with a couple and the lady left with me as the guys were off to do something else. Gary was shocked to ride in that guys car - what a disaster. That is such a bad impression. It would drive me nuts (no pun intended) driving around in disaster of a car.

Upon meeting new clients, they climbed into my car and one said, "Very nice, a clean car." It matters for sure Dave Rosenmarkle

We are always being judged , no matter what. Taking a few reasons away from that type of scrutiny, works for me!

Oh yuck! Not sure how they can ignore it, not to mention, not to mention being bowled over by the smells that usually accompany a dirty interior Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886. Potential buyers were pleased today and I nailed the first impression phase with a squeaky clean car, inside and out!

Wanda, although we do not cart clients around in our car like ten years ago we still have to show up... and I am a huge fan of having a clean car inside and outside it sends the right message, Endre

Good point.  Years ago when we used to rent to tenants, we would always take a look inside the car they arrived in to give us an idea of how they would live in our house... it pretty much says it all.

That is such a smart practice Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 and very telling! Now, the back of my car is used for office stuff but the first two rows are clean and well kept.
