The Aunt Hack neighborhood of Danbury is located along the western edge of the city. With winding roads, you get up to the heart of the neighborhood, the Richter Park Golf course. Originally developed from the late 1950s, the neighborhood was done in several stages taking over thirty years.
The streets in the Aunt Hack neighborhood include Lindencrest, Elmcrest, Cedar Crest, Driftway Point, Tanglewood, Lakecrest, Maplewood, Ironwood, Maplecrest, Devonshire, Sunset Ridge among others. It is located up the hill from Mill Plain Road and north of I-84 exit 2B from the east and regular exit 2 from the New York state line. Map is available on here.
About the real estate. Historically prices within the last couple of years have ranged from the high $200,000s to the high $600,000s. Most of the homes are typically colonials. There are additional some ranches and contemporary style homes. Most of the homes are sited on one acre lot serviced by private well & septic systems. Market time in 2019 per smart mls indicates about 2 months time for homes to get into contract. Property condition does vary. Some have been updated over the years, others are priced accordingly so the new owners can go in & improve the property to their liking. The neighborhood also offers a membership system to the private pool for area residents. The area has historically features some of the more premier property values in Danbury asides from Candlewood Lake. Although the area has gotten older sicne d there has been some newer subdivisions of larger & more expensive properties, it still remains in demand. Lawns are well maintained & the neighborhood is primarily owner occupied.
There's some interesting history about the Richter golf course. It was originally a farm for the assistant states attorney general, the Richter family who used to summer here in CT. The husband used to farm and bottle milk. Upon his passing, the The property was always attractive to developers but the family did not want to sell. The city's conservation commissioner convinced them to sell to the city to develop the golf course. The family wanted arts to be involved which is why we have musicals at Richter and Richter arts. The golf course owned in 1972 and remains of the top ranked public facilities in the country.
