By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Traditions

Irvington, Virginia is the quintessential waterfront town. It is located on Carter's Creek, where it meets the Rappahannock River. It is just a few short miles from the Chesapeake bay.

Irvington has a rich history that goes back to the first settlers in Virginia. John Smith explored the area in 1608.   Not long after, plantation owners came to grow and export tobacco to England via the bay and Atlantic Ocean. The town of Irvington is full of history and attractions- all within an easy drive of Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Baltimore – Annapolis, Richmond and Hampton Roads.

It is a great spot for bird-watching and boat-watching. Enjoy one of the two beautiful golf courses in town. Irvington also has an award winning farmer's market. Fresh seafood can be enjoyed at any of the areas fine restaurants. There are so many options!

Local boutiques, galleries and antique stores are a destination in their own right. There is so much to take in. You can also take a trolley ride through town (May-Sept). There really is something for everyone!

Stay at one of Irvington's nationally recognized inns or nearby B&B’s, charter a local fishing or tour boat or take sailing lessons from one of the East Coast’s premier sailing schools; or play golf on two championship golf  courses.

Coming by boat?  Irvington makes it easy. Carter’s Creek enjoys deep and protected waters and has several marinas offering transient slip rentals for boats of almost any size draft.

Come for one day, a week or more and you will want to return often. Irvington’s “rivah” life-style and its bay, river and creek breezes are always refreshingly addictive! Be sure to plan a visit soon! You will want to return again and again.
