Pondering Kindness Without Borders

While looking at some quotes recently for an ActiveRain post I found this author.  The name Daniel Lubetzky was not immediately familiar to me but further investigation has shown him to be a person who has a message I find quite interesting.  Combining entrepreneurship, philanthropy, kindness and more is something that I find intriguing.  Admirable too.  To say the very least.   I was reminded of a challenge by Carol Williams in December 2018 that coincidentally seem to align with my blogging return to ActiveRain after a posting respite of sorts.

Her challenge of finding a quote "that inspires you" led me to the well-known words about the importance of kindness.  But you know kindness matters not just for a challenge.  Or an event/a certain time. It's really about more than that.  Initially this has lead me to finding other words by Mr. Lubetzky and some additional research.  And how kindness is not just a part of his business but his life.  I continue learning more about him.  And in that process I am learning more about myself.  It's ongoing.  Like all thihgs that change and evolve.

We need to understand the other side to impact the other side.

We become much more effective when we engage in hearty conversations with those who are different from us, not necessarily to change our opinions

but to build the emphathy muscle.

                              Daniel Lubetzky

When you are bringing an idea to fruiition, there are two distinct phases:

the skeptic phase and the evangelical phase.

During the first phase, you have to be able to ask the most difficult questions -

is this idea worth pursuing?

But once you are convinced, you flip a switch.  It's about getting it done.

                         Daniel Lubetzky

It takes strength to be kind.  It's not a weakness.

We all have a responsibility to make this world better,

whether it's through our work, the causes we champion, the way we treat people,

or the values we impart to the next generation.

                      Daniel Lubetzky

I am still learning.  And I am sure you are as well.  Thankfully.

The photo in this post was taken in the city of the Los Angeles zip code 90042 hillside community of Monterey Hills overlooking the neighboring community of Hermon.

Michael Jacobs - Because I was curious, I looked up Daniel Lubetzky and was very impressed with his bio. There are so many fascinating people in this world we never would have known if it wasn't for people like you, who bring them to our attention. That was very kind of you.

I pored over the Wikipedia and was impressed with one of the many things he accomplished: "In 2017, Lubetzky launched a public advocacy organization called Feed the Truth to counteract the food industry's influence on food policy and public health. He pledged $25 million to fund the organization."

Perhaps it is appropriate to ponder the words, "Feed the Truth." With a deeper understanding of human behavior and the many good examples, we learn because of people, like Daniel Lubetsky and yourself, we can all learn to live and spread more kindness so that it becomes second nature.

What sticks with me most about the above quotes is, "It takes strength to be kind." How interesting.

Kathy Schowe - how nice to "see" you and thank you for the nice comment.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - his philosophy and business mission combine to create a particularly interesting life in my opinion.

James Dray - it's an everyday lesson it seems to me.  And for me as well.

Kat Palmiotti - I think that quote made more sense to me when viewed as part of his entire outlook on the subject of kindness.

This is a true gem, Michael. Love the Lubetsky quotes and will be sure to research more about him.

This is a quote that I keep near to  my heart and in my head.

“When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over. He does not need punishment; he needs help. That's the message he is sending.”

Hi Michael Jacobs ,

I know I commented when you first wrote this post but I had to read it again when Carol Williams selected it to be featured in her Second Chance Saturday series. It always amazes me when I see those not showing kindness as a preference..kindness should be a natural part of life. Its just a natural high when practiced daily.

Hi Michael:

Thank you for this post, for so many reasons. I love the quotes you shared, but especially the 3rd one. I'm going to do some reading on him, too! I didn't immediately recognize the name but certainly am familiar with the Kind bars.

It is important to know how the other side thinks.  What their motivations are and their interests, and what makes them angry even.  The other side can be your competitor, your potential client, your friends and close ones.  The other can be who you pretend you are...  I threw that thought in for you to ponder, Michael Jacobs !
