The Camden Court Hotel in Dublin was our home for the remainder of the trip. My friend Jean's grandson is in Med School there so we spent a few extra days to spend time with Dustin and his girlfriend Katie.
We traveled through County Wicklow, known as The Garden of Ireland. First stop was at Glendalough (The Glen of the Two Lakes, a monastary founded by St. Kevin, a hermit priest in the sixth century. Ireland is know as the Island of Saints and Scholars. This site is famous for it's 111 foot tall round tower and learning center.
That evening we enjoyed a cruise on the River Liffey, which played a central role in Dublin's past. Years ago the flow of the Liffey was essential to the survival of many local trades. It also plays a pivotal part in much of Irish literature, flowing into the opening and the ending of James Joyce's famous novel Finnegans Wake. As we cruised along we viewed Dublin's older neighborhoods and into the newer urban section. We enjoyed a Irish cocktail as we cruised and then to dinner at a local resturant.
