Motivational Monday… “Leave Your Ego at the Door."

The Planet Fitness we belonged to had a big sign that said: “Leave your ego at the door.” I’m not sure what they meant but I always took it to mean that we were all there with a similar goal. No one needed to be impressed or meant to egofeel any less by what we could or could not do.

Someone with a healthy ego feels good enough about themselves that they do not need to make those around them feel any less.

The ego that presents an issue is the one that is quite the opposite. We’ve all worked with and for those with these egos.

They’re the ones who run to the spotlight whether deserved or not.

They are the ones who will sacrifice the goal or project if it means someone else getting the credit.

If you are choosing a manager or project leader, a sports coach, or a friend...my advice is to look for someone who feels comfortable in their own skin and feels good about who they are.

If they cannot like themselves, they will have an even harder time liking anyone else. The focus on winning or achieving a goal could be overshadowed by the need to make sure they are the ones to get credit.

The way to get things done is not to mind who gets the credit for doing them.   Benjamin Jowett

Morning Kathy.

I have no ego, it left a long time ago.  Just get the job done, I rarely take credit for anything.

I like the way you described the ego situation. A healthy ego is wonderful. A me-me-me ego can be destructive.

Food for thought!!  Thanks, Kathy

This is a Greek word which simply means: Me.

It can't always be about Me but as my Dad told me often, "look out for number one".

A great post and very true, also those with small egos are willing to share the limelight and always willing to promote others to have the limelight.

Love this ! There is nothing wrong with being confident ( healthy ego ) but if your ego leads you in a direction of being unteachable, abnoxious and self centered 9 bad ego ), that is where the problem will be in not only business but in life.

Hi Kathy,
To me, true self confidence comes out in the form of being willing to help others and happy for their success.

Our business is rife with egos and it is such a pleasure when we come across an agent without one. The process is so mch more pleasant.

Kathy, I have met a great many Egomaniacs in my market.... had to remind myself to be kind and let the BS go to the wayside.... they are not the Principals only the "listing agents".... and believe me I have a strong ego with good reason... but I manage to put it in my back pocket to make the transaction happen, Endre
