Motivational Mondays - Peaceful Conflict Resolution

You know, we all work with the kind of business man/woman who ALWAYS has to be right, ALWAYS has to get their way and most often they are the ones that seem, well, simply miserable in life! They 'put the hammer down' and refuse to budge - there is no flexibility whatsoever. Yes, in my business, these are the agents that we hate to see coming with a buyer or agents who may have a listing that we know is the perfect home for our buyers!

Conflict Resolution

What do we do to maintain the peace? Well, for me, I call it my 'Southern Secret' - and suffice it to say, I am proficient at disarming these types! While I don't always welcome the challenge, I manage my transactions so that my clients are not impacted by the other side (including their agent). My clients are always excited to meet their buyers & sellers - whichever it may be, on the other side - at Closing. They don't have a clue what I have protected them from! As well, when this type of agents are on the other side, THEIR clients will often reach out to me; I think people are drawn to peacefulness, not discord - at least I'm that way.

Peace!

While I'm confident Ronald Reagan was not referring to business at all in his quote above, it totally applies to our business. Diffusing situations is at the helm of what we do on a daily basis. In my humble opinion, peaceful conflict resolution trumps the alternative - any day of the week!

Happy Monday!

That's what I do Beth - we can't change them but, we are certainly resourceful enough to know how to 'work around' them. Focus on the task and the drama will be reduced considerably!

I totally agree, Grant Schneider! Oftentimes when we understand that there are underlying issues and what they are, WE then know how to better manage the situation.

Thank you so much, Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886! You're SO right - it's not about them and when we focus on what our clients need, the drama tends to fall by the wayside. Move on...

Oh, we are so alike, Dorie! I have a couple of unanswered text messages sitting on my phone right now, without responses. I don't 'do' the drama thing and I refuse to let them suck me into their issues!

I agree, George Souto - it's always best to focus on the client and, more importantly, as you said, do what's right by them.

LOL Well, my 'southern charm' fell to the wayside this month - I've been overwhelmed with work and have been terrible about getting back to everyone for their wonderful comments - including you!

Thank you and have a wonderful week, Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP!

That southern charm comes in handy for many things in life - negotiating contracts is one that the charm works in my favor...for sure!

Happy Monday, Kathy Streib!

I'm all about the compromise but, I do agree, James Dray, there are times we must stay firm!

I utilize those around me to do some resolution of conflict if the other person refuses - the Closing attorney, the inspector for inspection issues, etc. Oftentimes others offering to 'clear things up' can be most helpful in conflict resolution, John Wiley!

Didn't he, Kat Palmiotti?! Oh, how I wish he was still alive...and still be in office! He was a charmer - he had no problems avoiding conflict and I feel that it had a lot to do with attitude.

OH the buttons, Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543!! I try so hard not to let anyone know those buttons but, when you know someone long enough, they're surely going to be exposed at some point! You seem like you would be the type to be wonderful at conflict resolution - heck, just the accent alone should do it! LOL

Hi Richie Alan Naggar! You're spot-on about seeking the truth. That is truly the root of getting through those storms.

I completely agree with you, Ron Tissier - you always want things to run smoothly but, never to let the clients know what went on behind the scenes to make it happen. The goal is for THEM to have a seamless experience...ALWAYS!

I'm in agreement with you - in fact, taking the high road is much of what Southern Charm is all about. I like your name for it though, Richard Bazinet /MBA, CRS, ABR

Your Whoop Ass graphic reminds me of my mother saying, "I'm going to jerk a knot in you!"

I never knew what that meant but, I did know that I never wanted to find out!

YES! Sheilding the buyers & sellers is key - I just Closed on this morning that the agent and her clients were IMPOSSIBLE to work with. I got us through it without my clients knowing there were any hiccups. It's always nice to hear them say at the Closing table, "I never knew buying a house could this easy!"

Sometimes we bite our tongues to keep from saying, "OH, IF YOU ONLY KNEW!" LOL

Those are the ones that I have the most animosity towards, Endre Barath, Jr. We KNOW their responses are going to be hateful - mostly because they live miserable lives!

They make their OWN lives miserable and then take great pleasure in making others' lives that way as well. I just don't 'get' that mentality!
