Recycling in Gaithersburg, Maryland

If you live in a single family home or townhouse in Gaithersburg, you've been enjoying the convenience of our single stream recycling program. Your glass, plastics and paper can all go into the same bin or cart for weekly pickup. But did you know that if you put the wrong things in that bin, it could result in the entire truckload of recyclables being rejected and sent to the landfill? The biggest offender is plastic bags. Never put them in your recycling bins; put them in a grocery store collection bin or in the trash. Pizza boxes are a no-no, too (they're too greasy). And while your cans and bottles and certain plastics are welcome, they need to be rinsed.

To ensure that perfectly good recyclable items don't end up in the landfill, the City's contractor will leave contaminated bins and carts at the curb with a sticker letting the resident know what needs to be removed.

Recently updated pages on our website can help you figure out how to Recycle Right. Just look under our Services tab at www.gaithersburgmd.gov. And thanks for recycling, by the way!

This is a City of Gaithersburg announcement.

Hi Roy... while lots of people like to support recycling they still often "break" the rules of recycling.

Good morning Roy. No matter how many times you tell people not to recycle pizza boxes, they just don't listen. You can't fix stupid but stupid is costly! Enjoy your day!

My trash consists mainly of recycle, as it certainly fills up quicker than the regular trash can.

Roy,

Our trash is 80% recycling.  In Napa we had two large recycling bins, and two large greens bins.  One small for not recycling.  A

I recycle regularly here at home.  But, I'm a California gal, it's in our DNA.

We have the same stipulations with our recyclables Roy. If you don't separate things out they don't get picked up.
