The picture above is one of the display windows in a wine and liquor store called Lavinia. We were drawn into the store by the window. There was something ethereal about its look, and we wanted to know more. It turns out that Perrier Jouet has crafted its first Blanc de Blancs Champagne.
Blanc de Blancs (white of white) means that this champagne is made entirely from Chardonnay (white) grapes. Perrier Jouet's slogan, "L'Art de Reveler La Nature" means in English, "The Art of Revealing Nature," which was the intent of the winemaker in making his first Blanc de Blancs. The window communicated to us that vision of heavenly taste of nature with three subtle shades of green, white and gold...
As did the words of this Champagne critic:
The style enshrines the P-J philosophy of chardonnay-driven freshness and primary fruit. It’s a wine of tremendous vitality and impact. With a very light straw-yellow colour, it summons green apple and savoury dried herb aromas, with a light bready overtone. The palate is tightly structured and lively, with wonderful acidity and line.
And yes, it made us want to buy a bottle! I have no doubts we will soon for a celebration or as a gift.
