Going Stair-less in Schaumburg - Ranch Style Living

More and more people are just opting out of 'stairs'. Whether it be the aging of the baby boomers or just having 'Mom and Dad' a short drive away it's becoming more and more popular.

But what's available? What styles will fit my needs and situation? I still have all this furniture that I don't want to part with 'just yet'.

What are my options?

There are an enormous selections for today's 'stair-less' buyers. I will go through a couple of different options in order to give you an idea of what might be out there for you.

Coach Homes ~ Many different subdivisions to choose from with a total of 4 homes in a section - 2 homes on the 2nd floor and 2 homes on the 1st floor.  There is a common hallway where you enter the building which is protected by a security system and where you also retrieve your mail.  Most homes also come with an attached 1 car garage.  These can also be called 'Manor Homes' too.

Favorable Features ~ Usually an eat-in Kitchen with a possible pantry, formal Dining Room for that furniture you might want to keep, walk-in closets, 2 baths possible.

Gatewood                                         Lexington Village
Glens of Schaumburg                    Towne Place
Heatherwood                                  Towne Place West
Lexington Green

Townhomes ~ A variety of great subdivisions to choose from but the main feature of a townhome is the private entrance - you're own private door like a house. Most townhomes come with either a 1 or 2 car garage. What most townhomes lack is the Dining Room which seems to be the first room that is excluded in the space. Obviously there are exceptions as you elevate in price. There are many subdivisions that only have one ranch style unit available.

Favorable Features ~ Private entrances, 1 or 2 car garages, basements, 2 baths possible, walk-in closets.

Autumn Ridge                   Briar Pointe
Dunbar Lakes                    Red Rock

Quads ~ the 'odd ball'.  A quad offers a total of 4 units in a building but one of the homes is offset which is usually the ranch model. It's like a small home just set apart from the others and still offers a private entrance.

Favorable Features ~ Private entrances, 1 car garage, no one living above for optimum privacy.

Obviously there are many wonderful 'over 55' Communities available in the surrounding area but my purpose here was to mention what the possibilities, advantages and options are to living and staying in our great Schaumburg Area.

Hope this was informative and if I can help getting you into your future home, please give me a call.

Hi Lyn- I love the idea of coach homes and no stairs. Our current home is a two story but the master bedroom is on the main level.

Lyn Sims - I have many buyers in my area that prefer one story and no stairs but it's very difficult to find these days. Sadly, they are building 3 stories making it impossible for buyers who can't climb or don't want to climb stairs. I haven't heard of a coach home before. I wish your builders and my builders would get together and talk so that construction for these desirable properties can be spread out in other cities and communities.
