We have done a lot to the house and really focused on modernizing while keeping the original charm.  Our family has LOVED living here and would NOT be moving if work wasn’t taking us away!

  • Completely Remodeled Kitchen with Wolf Range, honed granite counters and high end appliances.
  • Floating stairs built on main level to open up the space.  Trap door underneath for basement access.
  • Custom shelving made on main level.  We had a local artist fabricate the shelves, which are adjustable.  The wood was reclaimed from an old MICA building that the artist had access to.
  • Back yard redone to include a large patio space and seating, leaving the back untamed with the giant mulberry tree.  It is ideally suited for BBQs and relaxing.
  • Installed Brazilian cherry hardwood floors on the second floor.
  • Installed Indonesian Kempas hardwood on the third level (will darken overtime).
  • Added french doors to the bedroom.
  • Remodeled second floor bathroom
  • Remodeled third floor bathroom and added a HUGE open shower
  • Brazilian cherry hardwood floors
  • Refinished and fortified structure of the roof deck
  • New paint through out
  • New smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

BG&E bill is about $150/month which is excellent for the square footage of our home.

City of Baltimore water bill is about $50/month.

When we found our home at 8 S. Chester St, we were immediately struck with the amount of space in the kitchen.  Our entire home search was based on looking for a kitchen that would comfortably fit our rather large kitchen table that seats twelve people.  We knew it would be a challenge finding this in a row home, but it was important to us to have a home where we could have large groups of people comfortably gather.

There is a lot to love about this home!!  I love the first impressions when people walk in.  I've had people tell me it looks like a magazine, others have said they didn't know row houses could look like this, and our kitchen has been posted on social media with the caption ""dream kitchen.""  A stranger once knocked on our door, asking to see our kitchen as she had heard that ""it was to die for."

There is a lot of space to spread out in- including the roof deck to watch sunsets and fireworks.  I've had friends stop by to ask if they can go to the roof deck to watch rocket launches or the International Space Station as it goes by.

Talking about space- the backyard was the sleeper hit after we put some work into it!  With built in benches, and a specially designed grilling area it makes a great spot to have BBQs with family & friends. And there is still plenty of space to cultivate a garden if you have a green thumb.

We moved to Butchers Hill specifically because we found the neighborhood charming, and its proximity to Patterson Park & Johns Hopkins Hospital.  If you are looking for proximity to the hospital, there is a shuttle stop on our block.

Butchers Hill is awesome- it is friendly without being intrusive.  There are a lot of neighborhood events if you want to get to know the neighbors.  (organized stoop sits, park clean up, monthly chalk night for the kids).  There are also great restaurants & cafes.  Water for Chocolate is greatly acclaimed, Canela has excellent coffee, and the newly opened Charmed Kitchen is fantastic. These places are within a short walk, just blocks away.

The larger neighborhoods nearby are Highland town, Canton, Upper Fells Point, and Fells Point.  There are too many places to list to go to within those areas, just a mile or less away for bars, restaurants, gelato, or just to have a walk along the water.

If you like to get outdoors to exercise, Patterson Park is a few blocks away.   There are a lot of organized events in the park- concerts, Zumba, yoga, beer competitions.  Not to mention the kinetic sculpture race every May, and the Halloween parade every October.  There really is something for everyone."

Baltimore is...  quirky.  In the best way!

We moved to Baltimore after visiting for one weekend, we had a good feeling about it. And it did not disappoint. There is some excellent food (Ekiben, La Cuchara & The Charleston are my favorites).  The Peabody Library is one of the most gorgeous libraries in the world, and the live music scene is always going on in Fells Point.  There are so many things to explore.

Some of our favorite restaurants in the area are...  Charmed Kitchen, Ekiben, Kippo Ramen, Penny Black. I typically shop at Safeway (one mile away) and Whole Foods is also just a mile away. Costco is eight miles away for bulk items.  Specialty food shops I like are Rooftop Hot for homegrown fruits & vegetables and artisanal food and DiPasquales for Italian specialties, both just across the park in Highlandtown.
