There's nothing more frustrating than wanting to cool off in your swimming pool to find out it's just as hot as you are. Thankfully, there are ways to cool it down so you and your family can enjoy the pool rather than avoid it. So, don’t know how to cool down your swimming pool? Here are some tips on how to reduce the temperature of your pool.
How to Cool Down Your Swimming Pool
First, you need to recognize what is making your pool warm. If it's because of the use of a pool cover or a heater, those can simply be turned off or removed to lower the temperature. If it is due to the temperature outside, then read these tips for a cooler pool.
1. A Pool Cooler
A pool cooler is similar to a heat pump but instead of heating the water it can cool it off. Water will flow through the cooler passing a fan which then cools the water back to the pool. These coolers can lower the water temperature 10 to 15 degrees which makes a big difference in water temps. These coolers are often expensive, but if you live in a very hot climate they may very well be worth the money since they can work with different types of pools and materials.
2. Run the Pool Filter at Night
Running your filter at night will circulate the water and clean it while the temperature outside is cooler which makes for more refreshing pool water the next morning. This method also helps the hot water evaporates more quickly allowing for better temps. This method won't lower the temperature by a lot but it certainly can help.
3. Invest in a Water Fountain
Adding a water fountain is a great tool in achieving better water temperature. Installing fountains are extremely simple with just connecting the hose to your pool's return jets. This works because moving water stays cooler than standing water and it also allows more air flow.
4. Use Ice
If you have a smaller pool and easy access to a lot of ice, this method can cool down your pool. Obviously, because ice is cold it can lower water temperatures to a more comfortable level. However, you will need a lot of ice to achieve this and it can be a bit time-consuming.
5. Remove Trees or Plants
If you have a lot of landscaping around your pool it could potentially be trapping heat by blocking the natural air flow. Air needs to move across the pool to keep the water cooler, so removing any big trees or plants can help lower water temperatures.
6. Install a Retractable Awning
Installing an awning is another way to keep water temperatures lower. Having the awning cover the pool during certain times of the day can provide shade to the pool making the water cooler. Since the awning will be above the pool it will not trap heat or block any air flow.
Bottom Line
So, how do you cool down a swimming pool? Hopefully, these tips ease your frustrations or concerns and will help you realize that cooling down a swimming pool can be done by making the water refreshing and comfortable. Most of these suggestions are easy to do so you can achieve better water temperature and enjoy your trendy pool.
