Carlsbad Triathlon 2019
Sunday July 14th in Carlsbad Village
The Carlsbad Triathlon is a popular event and supposedly one of the longest-running triathlons in the world. This world class event, the 38th this year, attracts talented first timers, amateurs, and elite athletes from around the US and the world.
This year’s Carlsbad Triathlon is Sunday July 14th and you can still register online but time is running out. The Triathlon starts at 7:30 am at Tamarack Surf Beach, located at 3900 Carlsbad Boulevard (the Coast Road/Historic Route 101) about a mile south of Carlsbad Village.
The 2019 course for the Carlsbad Triathlon begins at Tamarack Surf Beach south of the Village, as in the past. The main Carlsbad Triathlon is a sprint distance, beginning with a 1K swim (ocean open water), followed by a 25K bike ride (a two-lap course with rolling hills along the ocean, no doubt a beautiful and scenic ride), and ending with a 5K run.
There are 5 different race options (including a relay for 2 and 3-person teams) depending on your interest, with varying distances for the swim, bike ride and run (see the Triathlon website).
The Carlsbad Triathlon is significantly shorter than some triathlons and the course is “mostly” flat...but oh, that view of the Pacific Ocean. And normally our weather at this time of year is pretty darn nice!
As always, the 2019 Carlsbad Triathlon includes a Lifestyle and Fitness Expo with a host of vendors. The Expo will be held at Pine Avenue Park at 3333 Harding Street, a short distance east of Carlsbad Village, from 10 am until 3 pm on Saturday, June 13th.
Be aware that there are lots of road closures making the triathlon safer but parking more challenging for racers as well as those wanting to watch and cheer them on - this includes portions of the coast road (Route 101/Carlsbad Boulevard) where the running takes place (from just south of Carlsbad Village Drive all the way to La Costa Avenue in Leucadia).
