How to get the trash bins to the curb when you have a really long driveway

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Evergreen Olympic Realty, Olympia WA

I recently moved to a five-acre parcel in Tenino WA with a really, really long gravel driveway. I had no idea how I was going to roll the garbage and recycling bins down this monster of a driveway until I did a Google search and discovered others have this same problem!

I found www.GarbageCommander.com sells hooks and hitches. I didn't want anything permanent and this hook is perfect.

Here's a quick video I did demonstrating how easy it is even for me to hook your bin up and drive it down to the curb!

I just really like this product and wanted to share it with you. This is not an endorsement of any kind - just something that helps with trash day.

Another fine example of handling obstacles...where there's a will there's a way!

Hi Raul Rodriguez - I wish I had invented this but "handling obstacles" is definitely a major job description of Realtors!

What a fun and helpful video! That really is a long driveway, you weren't kidding. This is coming from a city girl.

Hi Jill Sackler - I miss my short PAVED driveway in the suburbs but for now, the novelty of trash day hasn't worn off ... yet!

They got several different hitch designs and some can pull a bunch of them like trains. But they can also flip over as some are very heavy.

Thnaks for sharing.

Hi Sam Shueh - That was my concern, too.  Driving slowly and adding a bungee cord to the bins has averted disaster!   So far, no tip overs!

Time for a TRUCK! We did a similar move, going to 9 acres. I leave the cans by the front gate!

Well, that's pretty cool. I use similar bins and I have a long driveway, but good it's paved and goes downhill. I'd probably drive away and forget my bins are being towed! LOL

My father-in-law, at age 90+ hitched his garbage can to his car to negotiate the delivery and retrieval of the garbage containers up and down his long, steep driveway.

I wish I know about the Garbage Commander. I would have gotten one for him.

I have a client Francine Viola who bought a cheap GOLF CART and has it dedicated to the cans.  He has a Blue one for plastics, cans etc., Green for green waste and a Gray one strictly for waste.  Each is collected on specific days each week.
