ALAS...He Opened His Eyes!

Great Evening to You!

Hope that You and Your Families have had a great Fourth of July Holiday!

I was visiting our Father tonight (My Sister and Dad are in the photo with me above) and He is in assisted living.  There are so many things that I could tell people about this experience.

It is true.  You get more out of giving, than receiving...I'll explain.

Tonight, when I arrived at supper time, Papa (Dad in Italian) was sitting at the table with two other gentleman, one is in his nineties, and his eyes were closed.  What?  The assistant told me that he had taken a nap and is sleeping at the dinner table.

I was wondering why he is losing weight.  Right?  So I went and sat in the empty chair next to him and began, talking with Him and his two dinner companions.  I heated up his clam chowder which I was sure was cold and he confirmed that.

Then I spoon fed him the clam chowder.  He started opening his mouth, still with eyes closed, and gradually began eating more and more.  Pretty soon, we were finished with the soup and were on to the main course.

He seemed like he may get an upset stomach if he ate the shredded beef (just a gut feeling that I had) and so I fed him the macaroni and cheese (looked yummy) and the green beans.  I cut the green beans into smaller, bite-sized pieces.

Well, in no time, he was eating dessert!

AND HIS EYES HAD OPENED.

I don't know what really goes on in a Dad's head, when He has dementia and a few other diagnosis, as well as His Son (he still knows my name, THANK GOD) is feeding Him.  I am soooo Thankful to have had this year of taking him to eat and being his "Best Friend".  It really is the highlight of my Day.

I will normally post photos of Us on my Facebook and/or Instagram.

Please care for Your Elderly.  I find it a challenge at times, and then after I get through the "moment",  I realize that even in this condition, my Dad (Papa!) is still helping me.  What an amazing Person Papa is.  Glad to finally get to know Him this way.  Only took over 50 years lol....Better late than never is sooo true.

Wishing You a Blessed Weekend and Summer!

I will try to write more posts about my listings (closed three transaction sides this week).  Honestly, this is more important to me to share.  I hope that you enjoy all my posts.  CHEERS!  THANK YOU FOR READING.

God Bless You and Your Family, Always.

Good Night,

Todd

Morning Todd.

My man, you are so fortunate to have him in your life.  My dad died long ago of a massive heart attack.  I miss talking to him, to this day

I didn't really get to know my dad (as a person, not a dad) until very late in his life. I cherish every memory.

As for assisted living, and dementia, I've experienced both with my inlaws (alzheimers and assisted living). Your dad is lucky to have you to spend time and help him. Continue to cherish those moments, even when they are tough.

Nice post.
