At ease with your agent
A caller on today's radio show gave some examples of the last several homes she sold. One appointment on her home, the buyer showed up early and waited for her agent. After numerous calls... the agent, forty-five minutes late, explained that she overslept. It can happen, but the owner and the buyer were stressed.
Buying a house should be fun. It should be exciting. It should not be stressful. At least the stress should not be coming from or caused by the agent. Choose your agent with care not because their name is on a billboard or park bench. Get referrals from trusted friends.
Does the agent make you feel comfortable? Can you easily ask questions? Can you get the information you need? Is the agent familiar with your area? Do you feel like you are the only client or at least an important one?
Do your calls, texts, or emails get acknowledged right away?
Do you feel good talking with your agent?
Do you feel that the agent is proactive?
How often do you communicate?
Are you apprised each time your house is shown?
Even with no showings, do you hear from your agent?
Because of the real estate calls that I get during the week... I know this is not always the case. When asking if they are working with an agent. The answers are alarming. From
"I haven’t heard from my agent in 3 weeks."
Or
"There was a showing, and there was an open house, but I don't know the outcome.
Remember, you are the customer. The agent is working for you.
No, you are not allowed to treat your Realtor® as the hired help, even though that's what we are. The best agent will know your area, be familiar with the inventory, show mutual respect, consistent communication, answer your questions, and look out for your best interest.
